If I have gig samples, is there anyway to rip the thing into wav files?

Just wondering becase gig files come with magazine CD's and websites and I dont use whatever gig belongs to.

Cheers,
Chase

gigastudio? I thought that was the standard tool for all the hiphop/R&B producers. Don't ESC or Awave convert it?

Not that I recall - it *was* the standard tool for people doing orchestral mockups and soundtrack work, before a number of disk-streaming VST samplers came and stole its thunder.

Chase - you could try using Synthfont to play your Gigasamples. Seems a big shame to rip out all the meticulous programming from a .gig file just to play it.

But if you want to convert the .gig files to another format, try the Awave, CDxtract and Chicken Systems Translator demos, or bag the full copy of Extreme Sample Converter from http://www.extranslator.com for 79 euros (about $100 I believe).

Most softsamplers will import .gig too - and the author of Extreme Sample Converter is planning his own VSTi sample player which will play .gigs straight out of the tin.

Music with dinner is an insult both to the cook and the violinist.

There's one free sampler plugin listed in our database that can play .gig samples: SynthFont

Try this:

You can only convert something like one file a day (at least, there's some kind of time restriction on the free version, can't remember what), but it's free and will do what you want. Can't remember if it specifically has an extract to .wav option, but if you convert to sfz, you'll get the .wav files.

Do you know if this thing can play Instruments with release samples?

And can it play 24 bit samples?

Thanks!

No I don't know anything about that. Just download and try it yourself. It's a freebie, so what's stopping you?

Oh yes it is:
VSTSynthFont (VSF), a separate VST instrument version of SynthFont is also available.
