I remember the old latency list for soundcards. It is obsolete since most soundcards will give you down to 1.0 ms latency.

Because of that you dont see much latency values in tests and reviews. I fear that manafacturers use less time developing effective ASIO drivers because of that.

I know for sure that my Tascam ASIO direver use something like 20% more CPU than the ASIO driver for M-audio Ozone. The difference is very obvious. I often give advice about equipment for VSTi instrument, and it is obvious that most of the newbies dont know these differences. They think that an ASIO driver is a fixed standard.

I want to buy the new KB37 but I am not sure about its ASIO driver. And it is not mentioned in recent tests. (February FutureMusic.)

I suggest a new standard to measure the effiency of the ASIO driver. Maybe with a well known VSTi. Then compare CPU load with 6 voices playing. And maybe a test how many instances that can play before you hear crackles. All at 3ms latency.

There are too many variables in the equation for such a test to give any usable outcome...

Yes, I know you prefer the Novation, I have read the thread, but how is the KB37 asio driver? Can I expect it to use 20% more CPU than M-audio drivers? And how many % CPU load can you do before the sound break up? I have experienced crackles at 55% from a Creative driver. (Luckily it was not my machine). The best drivers I have tested can take a CPU load up to 99% before the crackles start.
