I just recently DLed this nice little synth and though I like to tweak as much as anyone I'm a little unimpressed by the presets, most don't seem to really take advantage of FM.
I was wondering if there are any good banks around for Vivaldi? In particular I'm looking for a pad type sound like the sample from Paul Lansky's Mild Und Leise as used by Radiohead in Idioteque.
Thanks.

I don't think you could achieve those chords in Mild Und Leise simply by loading a preset in some synth and hitting a few keys. There's some strange modulation going on there. Don't know how it's done, though.
Vivaldi is a really nice synth but a little limited in terms of FM, as it only allows modulating oscillators in pairs. If you are just looking for presets you could try with Hexter; lots of DX patches out there.

Yeah I thought that might be the case I mean Lansky had a academic mega-computer (by 70's standards). I'm not just out there for presets I just figured someone might have come up with one.
I'll check out Hexter though.

Actually I used to think extremely highly of this synth, still do, but not so much as before. I think it has a pretty limited mechanical approach to FM (more toward the additive side) compared to the typical FM synth of that size; so it's really good for bells, organs and metallics and such, but after some time with it, I decided that the presets pretty much tell the whole story.Polite Company wrote:I just recently DLed this nice little synth and though I like to tweak as much as anyone I'm a little unimpressed by the presets...

...although this also has to do with the fact that it has NO onboard effects to cheat with
There are a couple of things that are REALLY cool about it. First is the way you can divide up the keyboard by ranging each OSC's. This is the only synth I have that does that (that I know of anyway) and that's the sole reason I kept it. It's also good for very easily getting multitimbral FM sounds, which is the best approach to learning FM anyway, IMO so far, and the simplicity of it makes it ideal to that end as well. These are the strengths that make it most enjoiyable for me, but I don't think you'll get more from the presets than's already there.

Didn't my buddy Tim Conrardy do a bank, or at least a handful, of presets for Vivaldi?

I found a few presets I did a long time ago for Vivaldi MX, but they are mainly electric pianos, DX7 style
, and probably not that great
.
They work only under Aodix, don't know why, but I can convert them if you are interested.
