Hi, you're all invited to try out my debut synth. It's called Orz.

Orz is:

* a VST plugin synthesizer for Windows.
* fully modular.
* the first synthesizer to use TRAMS oscillator technology.
* capable of a sort of E-Mu-style morphing filter behavior.
* incomplete.

Orz features four envelopes, four oscillators, four delay units, four filters, four LFOs, four noise generators, two ring modulators, two step functions (also known as bitcrushers and amplitude quantizers), two sample-and-hold units, and freely routable user controls, and partial patch saving and loading.

Here is a screenshot:

I wouldn't be releasing this plugin if it didn't work well on my setup, but bear in mind that this is a *free* product, so be nice when you complain about errors. I'll be watchful and try to fix any problems as I'm told of them. My email address (backward) is (moc.oohay&2liamljb).

You are welcome to submit any cool patches you make! You'll be named.

No, you were right. There wasn't. My bad.

I'll try it tomorrow, this computer will prob freeze up if I run it while on the net, and I'm mixing on my main comp.

Thanks, I'll check this out when I get home 8)

Could you explain a bit about this "TRAMS oscillator technology."

TRAMS stands for Tuned Recursive Amplitude Modulation Synthesis. It's an algorithm I came up with for synthesizing band-limited waveforms. It synthesizes N partials in log N time. The oscillators in this version of Orz actually aren't purely band-limited because the band-limited version is about twice the computational cost of the non-band-limited version. Someday I might be able to do away with the anti-aliasing filter, but for now I'll settle on the compromise I currently have.

The demo sounds boffo. Downloaded, will try. The gui leaves a little to be desired though. :shrug:

Oh, I forgot to mention on the web site: The demo is not pure Orz. It's being run through a ping-pong. I'll add that to the site right away.

I think the technology has some promise, but the interface is generally difficult to use. Also there's something very weird going on -- when I start playing a note with the GUI not focused, then click anywhere on it to focus it, it goes down an octave.

Not having the standard VST patch management at all messes up some hosts too -- for instance, FLStudio can't randomize patches.

Also the output sometimes does a nasty DC thing at the minimum possible negative value.

Are you playing notes from the keyboard? Orz handles its own keyboard events and probably maps keys to notes differently.

Will it really be a problem if Orz doesn't do standard VST patches?

As for that nasty DC thing, could you be more specific? What were you doing at the time? I haven't experienced that problem before, but it sounds like something that I should attend to right away.

I don't know about anyone else but I always assume that demo tunes are at least a little gussied up, after all who uses synths totally dry on a track very often anyway. It is nice when one points it out though. :grin:

By the by I'll try the synth good and proper later today.
