What is the harm in having the guy take a listen? Have you never used a sound in a composition that was different in genre than the target market for the sound? If you haven't, you need a shot of creativity serum.

Sometime, you just look for "that sound". It really doesn't matter what library it is in. It just works. I see nothing wrong in suggesting orchestral sounds. They might just be what he wants. HIS ears will tell. It was only a suggestion.

I was just trying to point out that he might have some better luck with some more appropriate tools, but nevermind... my point has been miscontrued.

Remind me to use a Rhodes next time I am reciting a piano concerto.

i am going to have to agree though that it could get a little tedious trying to make an orchestral brass library work well for jazz because the jazz sound has a lot of obnoxious sound effects done with the horns and the orchestral sound has a pristine quality with sometimes a heavy reverb locked into the sample(usually recorded in large halls). you can make it work though cause brass in general is a hard instrument section to recreate with samplers. i find orchestral libraries work well for the big band sound sometimes (give or take a few crazy vibratos missing)

Hang on.

We have all been talking about 2 DIFFERENT libraries.

Some are talking about the old Quantum Leap Brass that has both pop and orchestral samples.

Others are talking about EWQLSO (symphonic orchestra), which is an orchestral brass library.

Have you people ever considered using real players instead of sample libraries? With all these sample libraries you'll have to put in hours and hours of tweaking to get the sound you're after, whereas a good player will just be able to play it straight off. I run a website where producers can get horn parts recorded by session players and download the parts when they're happy with them. Now I've been acused of Spamming before, but I don't think this is spam. Not many people seem to know that this kind of service exists, and I think that people who are looking for realistic brass on their records really would want to know about it. Good idea. I've seen sites offering bass and drums (live recordings) and now brass. Seems like this business model, as it were, is taking off. I like the concept myself. Site bookmarked!

I've been working with saxophonists and trombone players too. I recorded trumpet, trombone, alto, tenor and bari sax for my last project.

May I ask how many hours you spent on the horn programming to get it to sound that good?
