Check out the AI-Apiano02trans for a punchy piano that can cut through a mix.

The most versatile free sf2 I've had was Güray Dere's Clavinova Grand Piano 1 v2.0, which is about 120MB.
His site has disappeared.
I had a look at sf2midi.com and I can see 'ClavinovaGrandPiano1.sf2' and 'ClavinovaGrandPiano2.sf2' that are about 35MB each.

I've used these a lot:
Drums: JDRockKit (great for rock)
GM replacement: Airfont340 (also excellent for rock, but quite large to use as your primary SF2)
Orchestral: SJ (Sir James') Orchestral; some of the sounds are stunning, but some are so-so. The strings are excellent.
For piano, though, I've pretty much settled on the Steinway Grand SF2, but only in those instances where I don't use the 4Front Grand, which I also like very much.

It's better to burn out...than it is to um..to um...well, something, anyway...
