I know someone with a professional arranger keyboard with a 32 megs ROM. soundfonts that function like that ROM are amongs others the ones from Creative .
the rest use one sample per note.
combinicg short samples is better .

Larger soundfonts are in general better for the following reasons:
* smaller key ranges for one sample
* more velocity layers
* longer loops
But I think what you're trying to say is that a 30MB soundfont containing only one grand piano is to be preferred over a 70MB soundfont containing a whole GM bank (of which the piano only occupies 1MB)
But each to their own... Use whatever works and whatever you like.

No,no... soundfonts are AWESOME, as long as there written by people who know what there doing!!
For real now, I admit, I feel I am , myself, one of the best creators of this type
around!
But I come from MANY years of experience, (even back when the first editor was called
'Preditor') and you could ONLY create a soundfont that was 645 kb !!! No shit now!!
Unfortunately, this format has gotten a bad rap from gamer shit, and other so-called
font creators, (ie: scuh as fools , who try to create a font of a Grand Piano, or maybe
drum sets....) WITHOUT ever really knowing how to play these instruments, or let alone,
Have EVER heard a REAL Grand Piano, or Sat behind a real drumset.
Come on, you know the kind, nab a few samples from the internet, then throw them to
key assignments, and yeah..... there ya go, Another so-called font writer...."NOT!!"
Ive worked my ass off to know and learn (as a studio engineer), and also a seasoned pro
musician, playing several instrument at a pro level. And to 'hear' or Play, or even
create a REAL SOUNDFONT, takes ALL OF THE ABOVE. not some bonehead in his Bedroom with
a PC, using some shitty samples , stolen from somewhere, or hell, even if he-she did
creat them, NOT knowing anything about Engineering or sampleing these wav files
correctly.... whew, or even , getting the Layering proper... ya know, the list goes on
and on!!
Many here, now, and thru the years, have used my soundfonts, (some without even knowing)!!
theres two writers of this fantastic format, and that would be 'Sonic Implant' and Myself!!
Thats it, PERIOD!!!
all the others, are what cause these kind of unknowledgable post to be made.
sorry, but all is true.

yea right, because you must be studio engineer to make a soundfont.

...
what was the question again?
