basically i have a chance to get a pod xt cheap, (it will only be availble for the next few hours) i have tried GR and Gr2 and amplitube and amplitube 2 without much success.

i am looking for a clean soft mellow sound with a lot of effects possibilities like delay reverb and a soft distortion/boost

i haven't been able to get this kind fo soft mellow sound from GR or amplitube, plus the effects on offer in both programs seem minial,

is the pod xt for me? based on what i have said. will i be able to get that nice tone as a base, and then have a big choice of effects so i can have many possibilities?

the price its on offer for is 150 inc delivery (pounds)

really hope you can help

well, a pod/hardware effects box is always handy to have as you can just pick it up and go if you ever play a gig/jam etc - much harder to do with computer based effects of course...

i've never realy used a pod xt, but i have a Line6 Flextone 3 guitar amp - with the amount of amp sims and editing options in it you could get practicaly any sound/tone you wanted out of it!

also with hardware your never going to be limited by computer resources etc. it will just "work" whatever the case...but then you'll be sacrificing the ability to have any combination of effects that VST effects can give you.

If your one particular type of sound and thats your main reason youre thinking of buying one then go to the Line 6 page and listen to the sound demo's to see if any match what your looking for.

Most importantly - go and try one out! go down to your local guitar shop and test it.

Also, dont just buy something because its on offer right this second. There will always be offers around, dont just rush into buying something - its not the last pod xt on the planet.

Saying all that, chances are you probably wont be dissapointed if you do end up buying it - there are thousands of people using pod's, and line 6 make great products - is the xt your looking at second hand or something? if its new you could always send it back if you dont like it.

its second hand,

i am thinking of leaving it for a bit

its is just extremely annoying, because what i want is clear.

i want a nice guitar sound, mellow and ambient, similar to the 65' twin reverb (fender) and then tons of effects that i can place ontop of that nice tone, thats way i still have the base of the nice tone, but can expand on it and manipulate that tone to give me tons of options for my music.

i simply cant do that with gguitar rig or amplitube.

i also know the pod xt has a model based on the 65' twin reverb.

i cant afford to buy the real thing with all the effects pedals a the moment.

is there another program out there i haven;t heard of that might give me the sound im looking for with the choice of effects?

Have a look at Revalver II

will do, any more programs i might not have heard of?

If it means anything, I much prefer the sound of my old POD 2.0 (predates XT) to any amp sim software. I'd buy an XT in a hearbeat.

FreeAmp 2?

I'd hate to rely on the converters in a POD XT. I'd try to get yourself a good deal on a POD XT Pro. I generally like the POD sounds better than GR2. Only good for clean sounds. I tend to go with pedals and amps, but sometimes the POD can be so easy.

I really like ReValver MKII and FreeAmp2 - but there is one that deserves attention and has recieved almost none, and that is CrunchDude! I disable the onboard cab sim and use Boogex with cab impulses. With a ton of other cool free fx the whole deal still uses less than half the CPU of most of the other amp sims and I have it tweaked for a very hi-fi BF Fender tone.

The converters in POD are bad? Just curious, haven't heard that before.

Jesus, Guitarzan! That's quite the rig! What does that sound like? :hihi:

ill check out free amp, but if that doesn;t wokr out do you think the pod xt is the way to go?

doers i suit the sound im tyring to aim for more than the other pieces of software?

PODxt's auto-swell, combined with multi-tap stereo delay (and other goodies) can create some really nice ambient soundscapes. I'm a fan. ;) I've used these tones via TonePort, mind you, but they're bit-identical.

well, im boored at the moment, so i thought "why not, ill go and book out the Pod XT Live from the music tech studio for an hour or two and record some example sounds"

...but after playing with it for about an hour! i realy cant be bothered to record any examples for you...because the amount of sounds you can get from this thing realy are endless!! :D

ive been tweaking away at this thing for ages! :P

So if the Pod XT has the same models + fx as my Flextone 3 and the XT Live then im pretty damn sure you will get whatever sound you want from it! :hihi:

Me want POD XT... :(
