thats is pretty much the tone that that band i linked ot make, minues the delay and reverb and other modulation which the j-station all has,
also did you record that through di box yeah?
the blackface is the model on the twin reverb right, (that was the amp i would have got if i gave up on cheaper alternative)
and it sounds great.
i have sene one on ebay for 85 pounds delivered, a lot cheaper than the pod and it seems to have everythign i want.
just a quick quesion on the j-station though, ae the delay and reverb and falnger effects good and customizable as i imagine that and wiht a tweaked blackface will eb what i will buy it for and that will be the tone im looking for.

idris -- Yeah, the J-Station had, probably still has, a rep as having a stunningly good Blackface sim. And that is indeed the Fender Twin.
You can turn off all the effects if you wish, and can even turn off the cabinet emulations. Or mix and match and modify as needed. There's a software patch editor which is handy if you're going to be doing a lot of tweaking to try to find that 'perfect' tone.
And there is still a web site with a links to a forum and over 400 patches for you to try out: http://www.johnson-amp.com/jstation.htm
If you decide to get out of control with this thing, you can get a Behringer FCB-1010 foot controller, plug it into the J, and go wild with switching patches and parameters and volume and so on while playing live. It's a very heavy-duty controller, built like a tank. It's hard to wrap your head around how to use it, but once you figure it out, it rocks.
However, the truth is, I used it live for awhile, but now mostly when live, I just run a Digitech Bad Monkey into my J-Station, then into an old Blackface Deluxe. Am in tone heaven then.
I have a late-70's silver-face Twin that I'm told sounds very much like a Blackface Twin, but I can't remember the last time I ever fired it up. It's too damn loud. I never played a room where I could crank it above 4 without hurting people.
Anyhow -- There's probably lots of great stuff out there, and you can obsess about it endlessly, but if you want a good Fender Twin tone, and have a Strat to go with it, then you won't go wrong with the J-Station.
EDIT: To answer your questions about the DI box -- Nope. Plugged the guitar into the J-Station. Connected from the SPDIF Out on the back of the J-Station, to the SPDIF In on my AudioPhile 2496 card. I've been really struggling to simplify my signal chain. Pulled my cheap mixer out, and now run vocals through a VTB-1 and guitar through the J-Station and sometimes the VTB-1. Nothing else in the chain unless I put a pedal in it, which is rare.

I stopped by the Sam Ash store and they do still have the J Station. $80 but no ac adaptor. Wouldn't think it would be too hard to find. Editing software and PDF manual can still be downloaded (I think, haven't checked lately). The salesperson said they would ship from the store so if you're interested give them a call. Picked up a V Amp 2 from a guy across town for $40. Don't really need another unit but I'm such a sucker for a deal.bduffy wrote:Dammit, I want that J Station now!![]()
Amberience, I think Dux and I were referring the very top end of the sound. For sure Rammstein has big bottom end. How could you not, with a name like that?

Sorry guys for OT... Cheesus, I never realised bduffy= Billy Duffy
it seemed familiar though but I couldn't associate it properly probably [try saying that after a bottle of wine
].
It's been a long time since I had a pleasure to be on The Cult's concert, it was sometime in the early 90's, but at their peak. Crazy... I've been on a lot of concerts since, but somehow nothing cuts it for me like the early 90's Depeche, Cult, Simple Minds, Laibach and some obscure underground bands I like... yeah I live in Europe btw. not so much concerts here as in US I think.
I'd love to see The Cult one more time. aaarrgghh. Why is it easier to write that instead of the "proper" swearing words
.
Are you having that "fun friday" night, too? I am trying to remix a song for someone but I cannot find the right inspiration.
Cheers!

I'm gonna restrain myself from being a hog, but if one of you guys without a J-Station doesn't snap this deal up ASAP, I'm planning to call them tomorrow afternoon and grab it.Teksonik wrote: I stopped by the Sam Ash store and they do still have the J Station. $80 but no ac adaptor. bduffy -- I just had a chance to listen to your clip. Dammit, that rocks!!
Exactly the kind of rock that I get off to, with that 'symphonic' sound. And that's a great lead tone. Keep going, man!

Cult, Simple Minds - huge influences. And, wow man: Laibach!!! OMG! Those guys are amazing! They came to Vancouver a few years ago, I meant to see them. Must be some show they put on, goosesteps and all!

chalk me up as a huge fan of the J-Station as well! I traded my original POD 2.0 on it after I saw the J-Station sitting in the showcase for months at my local Long & McQuades. Plugged a Strat into it and was knocked out by just how much tonier, sweeter, and just plain right it sounded - for one thing, its clean settings killed. Plus it also has bass amp models in it, which really sold me on it - my bass tone improved 1,000% on my recordings.
Here's some KVR contest stuff I did using the J-Station:
Year Of The Angry Rabbit (metel distortion stuff)
Unexplained Bacon (mostly clean stuff)
one killer device I've added to my system is Digitech's new RP-250 floor modeler. If you didn't like the old RPs for being too plastic-sounding, the new ones are a quantum leap forward - better amp tones, some killer wah sounds, a Whammy pedal model, and some gorgeous Lexicon reverbs. The J-Station's cleans, hi-gain sounds and bass models are staying, though....

greylion,
will running my guitar through the j-station the through di, and into my mixer, make a big different that just plugging it straight into my sound card?
i have the audiophile 2496 too, so i can plug direct, however i use a lot of miked up acoustic which i need the mixer for mic inputs, so it would eb a hassle plugging and unplugging (especially when the soun dcard is usually lose, becasuse case my pc is in wasn;t designed properly and i cant screw it in
and we all agree that considering i wanted the twin reverb sound, that the j-station is the best option yeah especially considering its much cheaper than all the other options.
are the effects good (delay and reverb wll be the ones i use mostly)

Says this about Ty Tabor in Wikipedia:
Jesus....He played an unusual model of Fender Stratocaster called the "Elite", an active-pickup model that was only in production in the early 1980s. The remainder of his gear was more of a mystery; he would switch the logos on his amplifiers to keep his tone a secret.
