This may be a daft question, but:

Is there a cheap and cheerful way to get the slice timing info out of an RX2 file?

Ideally as a MIDI file.

This way, I can:
  • import the RX2 into my Sampler, to get each slice mapped to a different note,
  • and import the MIDI file into my Sequencer to trigger the slices in the original groove,
  • and edit the MIDI notes to create new grooves.

you can just take the rex file and put it into a sampler...put each slice on a dif key then play with a midi file that way....

Well, "cheap" depends on the software you already own. I'm not aware of a free program that does this. But you can do it with Recycle, Reason, Intakt (and Kontakt and Battery as well, if I remember correctly), Cubase and probably a lot of other samplers/sequencers ...
