thanks! :)
only vsti, all and everything ...
all sounds no presets, even the drums and the loops are constructed (i.e. on the bd, the "record noise" is albino :) )... only one athmo sample is used more or less the way it was sampled ...
also mixing and mastering is exclusively vst ...

Not bad, strange thread though. Pointless discussion really as the best way to emulate Vangelis is to habit his brain! Short of that and we're just copying to a lesser or greater degree.

My own sub-Van doodle is here for whats its worth (streaming only I'm afraid.) Twas done with 3 presets in Absynth 1.0

Sounds good, but I prefer your tracks when you're trying to sound like Brok Landers. :)

I own a CS80, and use it without any effect, directly in the mixer.
I've hardly compared side-by side the Cs80 and the Cs80V ... Arturia is ONLY not bad, a nice synth who resambles the original, BUT . . . it's still SO FAR from the real CS80.
Sorry . . . there's nothing to do: the way is still long, for the VSTi to really achieve "that sound" .

Yeah, that is pretty nice -- makes me glad I read this thread to the end.
Makes me feel kind of inadequate again. Just when you start to feel you know how to do a song/mix, you hear something that knocks you down a peg. :? :D

@Brok
I've just listened to your 2 mp3 posts here, and I just want to say.. you have a new fan! :)
beatutiful music, total musicianship, gorgeous sounds, superb mixing.
I second what Tronam said about when you are just "being yourself" :).. a truly accomplished artist, sir.

Btw, former CS-80 owner here (it died :( ), current CS-80V owner.. agree totally with Houston and Omissis)
I did get a life,once...but it was faulty, so I sent it back.

YO! I just registered to let you all peoples know that it is possible to have that Vangelis styled instruments on software based synth , the synth is called "impOSCar" and you will love it from the first time you hear it , it produces so incredible sound that its hard to believe , brilliant VST , just check out , if you just browsing patches then in makes you want to play some of Vangelis songs , maybe im sound like too enthusiastic , but ive got the reason.Just check this plugin and you will realize that you dont need other shitty vst and their "emulatated" sound which sounds just like plastic , impOSCar sound is very alive .

Since this is your first post here, welcome to KvR. :) Also, thanks for the impOSCar recommendation, but I suspect that you are "preaching to the choir" as they say. ;) It has been out for 3 years now and is one of the most popular and highly rated plug-ins here. Anyways, one of the key points that bears repeating is that it is Vangelis himself that infuses so much of that life into his music. Even people armed with a genuine CS80 will not sound like him because a huge part of his sound comes from the performance itself and how he interacts with it. Nothing is going to capture that, no matter how accurate your VSTi simulation is.

Give Vangelis a couple current vsti's and he will make exceptional music. There are so many great softsynths now and the discussions about which are better are becoming more and more based on preference because the quality is very high.

AndreasKrebs wrote: Agreed, of course. However, maybe, for this purpose it is not necessary to match the sound exactly. It is secondary. Or even worse: the most important thing for learning Vangelis' way of playing Keyboard would be a good keyboard with lots of foot pedals, sliders and *polyphonic* aftertouch. Why don't we see any flamewars about this? (Don't want to see flame wars at all, but noone seems to care that todays keyboards are mediocre at best.)
Cheers,
Andreas
I don't think there is a single keyboard controller, regardless of price, that fits my idea of a great controller. Yes, that would include PolyAT, breath, couple pedals, X/Y/Z pad, knobs/sliders and is built well and great feel/action to the keys.

Most of the controllers today are built like crap and have little subtlety.

Even if it is expensive, I would happily buy 1 great controller that will last and built as an instrument for a musician because that is the interface for using all the virtual synths and effects.
