Can ST work with a hardware sequencer ie. Mpc, MV8800, and others?

ST2 has to be running on a computer, but you can certainly use the hardware sequencer to send MIDI to the computer.

With ST2 running in standalone mode, you don't even need to have any host or sequencer software running on the computer.

Let me get this right:

Connect Hardware sequencer via midi to PC.
Open ST2 in standalone mode.
Select the midi input in ST2 setting.

And that will let me control ST2 channels via hardware?
