hi all,
I've got 2 hardware alphas that I love but now that I'm getting into the vst's I was wondering if any software company has done a good vst version of it.I've tried reaktor junatik which is sorta like it but not really an exact emulation.Is there an actual alpha emulation with presets and all parameters? I especially like the"hoover" sound which is kinda unique to this synth I think.

Try reFX junox, I believe it's an Alpha Juno emulation

Not quite the same, but I remade some Juno sounds for the factory library and they translated very well.

There is EFM's Alpha2 (forth from the top) I've never used it but it's called Alpha2 and says it's a Juno emu. EFM has a pretty good track record so I'd think it's worth a try.

Is Junox really an Alpha Juno emulator? I mean sound wise.

I don't think anything has been made to exactly emulate the Alpha Juno's oscillators, filter and envelope (= same behaviour as on the original).
You can come close with other synths, but you'll have to do some tweaking by ear to get the sound right (I also made some Alpha Juno presets in my Z3ta+ soundbank and for AAS Tasman which sound scaringly close).
I saw a blueprint of the internals once and the LPF is pretty stange, actualy combining a lowpass and a bandpass filter, which contributes greatly to the Alpha sound.

The Junos seem like a cult synth. Its hard to believe no one had made a good emulation of them.

So is Junox2 good anyway? How do I get a copy?

Depends on what kind of sounds you're looking for. It's very aggressive (IMO) and the sounds don't blend well in a mix(depending on standards). Most sounds to me sound like race car doppler effect eeeeEEEEOOOOUH!

i own an alpha juno, and xhip sounds just like one. the alpha juno hasa filter which is a bit distinct, the mixture of waveforms can be slightly distinct too. if you really want an alpha juno buy one, they're about $150 all over the place. nobody wants them, "too digital, cold", not enough knobs and flashy "analog" looking hardware interface i guess.

the difference between these two sounds is due to the fact the alpha juno has the extra modulated saw waveform adding some extra even harmonics.

----I've heard presets here and there (from various synths) that definitely could've passed for a Juno, but no one soft synth that emulates it. I'd shop around, yer likely to find some synths that can get some of what you want (Juno sound-wise) and a lot more in other cool sounds too.

It did a great Juno Hoover, but it is sadly no longer available.

However, Vanguard is capable of the same kind of sounds.

Something you really must try if you have an Alpha :

Sample a pad sound and layer it in your sampler with a detuned version of itself : WOW, instant fatness !!!

This comes very close to the JX10P pads.

----Firebird is along those lines too, and a few bucks cheaper. Check out Feldspar for like $16.95 or something, it's got a bunch of sound banks for it, and amongst those are some hidden analog-ish gems, in my opinion. Anyways, the whole Juno-quest kind of depends on your budget, AAS Ultra Analog is probably the way to go if price is no object eh.

I believe Junox was designed largely by Tone 2's Markus Feil while he was with ReFx.
