The third party developers and Major programmers have worked herd enough to refine XP, just let Vista pass by, it's like any other interruption, if you ignore it, it will die, don't waste your money, remember microsoft can only sell what we the consumer want, remember windows me, and 2000

, where are they and who cared, XP is a revolution and it can become anything you want it to become, oil and improve your XP, and wait for the next train.

vista is here to stay, devs need money, xp was no revolution, microsoft has marketing division to tell people what they want...

Mind you, I'll do my very best to ignore it all the same, which isn't easy with my appetite for new hardware 'n' stuff. (This year's mantra: "Upgrade Nothing. Make Music.")

Wrong... it's being forced on consumers via OEM installation on all new computers.

Go into any store and see what is loaded onto every new machine.

There is no escape!

You'd have to be pretty lame to buy a DAW with OEM shite on it anyway yeah?

I also agree with sunahura -- go with XP Lite and tweak away to have an excellent DAW or go with Linux (which I am also contemplating) to send a BIG message to MicroGay that, not only does OS mean "Operating System" -- it also means "Open Systems"

I'm talking about the average consumer, not electronic musicians. The discussion is about the proliferation of Vista, not building DAWs.

well this is all well and good the bottom line is microsoft does not care what you think

the consumer market is going for vista whether you like it or not

and because manufacturers of components are also driven by the needs of the consumer market they will cease to make hardware that works with much else within maybe 5 years

so either build a stock pile of components that work with xp - or go linux and seriouly limit the range of choices you have for your daw

Or maybe, just maybe - and this is radical

get vista - install it and forget about it because it's only a tool

Do yourself a favor and switch to OSX. I was a Microsoft OS user from 1982 and suddenly realized I was so sick of it. 5 years ago I discovered what a GREAT OS OSX is.

Your XP systems will remain awesome for many years. But resistance is futile. I've been doing this from the start, was programming for Windows 3.ZERO back in '91. Trust me, just take it, take it like a man, close your eyes and think of the Queen.

(I'm still on XP and the only hurry to upgrade is to support my customers. Thanks Bill, now I need to buy two new computers.

I'm against Vista, too. As long MS don't implement Open Source software. I've read an article about this case. I'm happy with XP and as long they support and update it, i stay on XP. But i've updated XP with some Vista Graphics, Wallpapers and tools, like ObjectDock and the Gadget Bar. nice toys.

im interested how Open Source software and Microsoft could be compatible in a business sense....

it seems they are incompatible due to their natures.

Vista, is just a phase
