:tu: Thanks, I kinda needed to see it also. looking forward to giving this tec a try.

It looks as though I should give Electri-Q a try also, Have been hearing good things.

Thanks

Post

Sure thing! Yeah, Electric-Q is totally amazing. I've been getting into it more lately, it's just stupid that it's free. :D :hail:

Post

this is the free one yes?

Electri-Q (posihfopit edition)

the full is gonna smack me for 99 euros, but by the sound of things, is quite reasonable.

Post

Yeah, that's the free one. Price is more than reasonable for the full version, but have a play with the Posihfopit edition first, see if you like it.

Cool, will do. looking at the comparison table on the site, an upgrade might be the way to go later on. But having said that, I try to keep eq to a minimum. Still,
I cant wait to try this technique. I usually do the standard low/high roll offs then smile the whole mix (a little).
havnt been too sad with the results but this sounds like it will helps to eliminate some of the problems that remain.

I'm reading that LIVIN IT LARGE sos article also.

Good lookin out mate.

P.S. the the skins you mention are for the free version yes?

Post

For both, yes. If you're doing "the smile" for the whole mix, it may sound similar, who knows. Happy experimenting! I'm off to do battle with the esses on an unholy vocal track... :(

all i say is IMO!!!!!

this is a good tip but not something to just throw on every thing & make it look like that EQ setting,

remember your lo cuts & hi cuts, even lo cut on bass (even a big bass) <cutting will help make it bigger> & cut only the lo sub htz, same with a hi cut, & the dip to clear muddiness can be from 550 down to 170 so play with it!!

this is very important with EQ's you must set by ere, do your cuts & dips & listen,

solo just the bass & drums & get them tight,

thats me for tips that i find usefull

:)

Subz

Post

Nice one Subz,

Yeh already do my hi/lows. and the occ lumping/dipping but this is something else that I will experiment with as it sounds like it might help with some of my weaker areas of mixing. Those areas where I just sit there, listening, staring at my daw, thinking, what now?

.....then I would usually add a bit of multi band on the master track and come close to thowing my PC out of my 2nd story studio window.

haha :hihi:

Post

Thanks, djsubject. I was just showing that specific dip. I too do high and low cuts, and still that region bunched up. This stuff is hit & miss on guitars and bass, you have to use your judgement. But you're totally bang-on: I think possibly the most important thing is to get the bass, drums and vocal tight, and everything else is pudding. :D

Dayl! Multiband on the master bus!! :x Go to your room.

Haha, I know, I know. Quick fix laziness gone bad.

My girl knows when I've messed up, as I will calmly walk downstairs and sit and watch american idol with her.

Oh man, that sounds great right now. I'm too tired to mix. :drunk:

Is it still the funny part where the people who can't sing - but think they can - are trying out? :hyper:

Post

nah, they are at the hollywood stage now (I think)
although there are still a few stray notes here and there.
I'm in NZ so may be a little delayed

im totally going to try this method- but yes i do many hi/low cuts depending on teh mix, ill just pop this technique on and see what happens... personallyi pop on CLAS and ozone (limiter + exciter) on my master when im mixing down a+
