I agree, make the O.S. they started to make, with XP, and get rid of the garbage, microsoft is to worried about protecting thier product, that they have lost thier edge,
and about the registry abuse, the software companies have become hackers and pest. We need a standard in protection not a bunch a of programs causing havoc.

Well I don't know why yuo would rush to get it. What does Vista have that's REEEEEALLLY new and super-duper compared to XP? I honestly don't know

And for supposed Linux's "inability" please consider Muse Receptor and Korg Oasys.
Jack is also much more powerful than that ALSA/Rewire what is used in Windows.
(it's possible to use more than one host and mix theirs outputs for an example)

But at least you can chose what you want where not so with Windows. Try running Windows without a GUI or directly from cdrom. It shows where flexibility lies.

This "user friendliness" is a supposed advantage of Windows? Try a fresh person
(without any experience with computers) to use Windows and (s)he will be helpless.

Sure after so many years with something it gets very familiar. So I can say Linux
is more user "friendly" for me too.

For GUI stuff Microsoft was one of the last companies who started to have it.
Perhaps it'd refreshing to remind about (q)DOS origins and for what reasons
IBM had chose MS instead of DigitalResearch?

Like there isn't any automatic stuff going under Windows' hood. Except it's all cryptic.

For what you said you are using Windows basically because there are some apps you need.
It's a support issue not a technical one.

Again what about Receptor and Oasys? Where is that supposed "inability"?

Actually I think (MHO) this will be the last major OS microsoft is going to put out. After this it will just be a variation of either Vista or XP if any at all.
Ballmer and the rest of the older execs have announced their retirement for next year. The new generation execs are placing their bets and research in net services like google is.
Also the code in Wins just can't be re-worked anymore than it already has. It has become a coding abomination of biblical proportions

For another OS to develop it would/should be written from scratch and if we take into account how much they have taken to "fix" the code this time I reckon it would take MS 20 some years to write a new OS. Too much waiting time for me

Besides XP works just fine for me for the time being

So I'm wondering here, What is wrong with Vista ???? I've been running it for months now and would never go back to plain old XP. For the ones knocking it have you even tried it or are you just making claims because your afraid of change?

Actually the question should be. What is right about Vista for us to shell out so much cash for it?

I used the last betas and I personally did not find anything in there worth upgrading all my hardware and opening my wallet for Mr Ballmer.

I have tried it... It's less performant, less stable, and drivers aren't 100% supported yet. I found no reasons to justify the change... it's useless to me.
