Creamware DSP and Multitrack Recording card simultaneously?

I'm speculating for a while now with a DSP add on card for my studio. Creamware has fair prices IMO and offers a lot. I also have the chance to get a Luna II card with some stuff.

Now I have a problem:
I want to use the DSP card with my Terratec EWS88MT/Phase88. On every article I've read, it was also mentioned that this card can be used as recording card.

Q1: Can both cards work simultaneously or only one at a time?
It's a bit useless to me if I can only use the Creamware for plugins, but not my Terratec for example if I do recordings in the studio.

Q2: A friend just told me that this card doesn't work in terms of rendering, I have to record it in real time?
This is a bit bugging me. If I'd get the SSL Duende, the Liquid-Mix or the Powercore system, I could use the plugins as if they were VST ones, without CPU usage on the righ of course. I can also use them plugs for recording, render (bouncing or in Cubase "Export to WAV"), etc.

How is that handled with the Creamware?

Q3: I'm curious - if all upper sections would work out for me, how many plugins can the Luna II run simultaniously?
If I'm limited to 10-15 plugins max, then I really drop this idea and rather go for the Liquid-Mix, because large arrangements can need a lot of processing. And if I have to start bouncing after the drums (8-12 tracks, depending on the micing) already, then I'm at the point where I am now already, only that I use native plugins.

Any help and comments would be gladly appreciated.

From everything I've heard, the Luna is really underpowered. I doubt you'd get 10-15 plugins out of it - of course it depends which plugins.

There are some experienced Creamware users here who will pipe in, but I'm pretty sure all of them use 10+ DSPs (Luna only has 3 I think)

Looks like no other Creamware users around here, eh? ;)

If you haven't already, visit planet z. You will find a warm welcome and answers to any questions you may have.

Q1. i don't know your card, but many people have run CW and UAD or TC cards quite happily.

Q2. Yes you have to record realtime. This should only bug you if your own music bores you though :hihi:

Q3. i think you would need a 6 DSP card. i have 23 DSPs and am quite happy thank you.

Of course if you like synths the cards are no-brainers - they sound great, but the real advantage of CreamWare's Scope system is the flexibility of the routing - this is something that not all native users understand because they have grown up with Cubase etc, but for us oldies who used hardware it's an absolute breeze and better than any native solution.

keep us posted if it works... I have a Scope Home in my music PC, which replaced the ews88 I used before, but if I could use both in the same machine, the added 8 inputs could be useful...

About the 3 dsp's, it' ok if you just use the card for the routing options and the occasional reverb / mastering plugins.

So in short, using it in VST-mode and using "export to WAV" later - doesn't work.

Using it parallel with the EWS88 - works.

Fair trade in terms of DSP chips - not really woth the effort.

Well, guess that answer all my questions and I guess I look for something else, or finally put the money into new speakers.

Thanks again.

I just sold my trusty PowerSampler (Luna), which is robust enough to do a few good size plugins/synths as well as record analog/digital into your host in real-time with no problems.

You can also find expansion cards like older SRB's (Sonic Rocket Booster) to expand DSP horsepower. It's not clear from your post exactly which plugins you plan on using.

I'm not sure how your system will respond to the drivers for both cards running at the same time, but Scope DOES have a digital link module for plugging your existing soundcard into Scope for such purposes as using it for games, etc.

There is TONS of routability and flexibility with Creamware cards.

And I also suggest hanging out at planetz.com to get your questions answered over there.

GOod luck,

Greg
Don't ask me, I just play here.
