no. the answers given on those two pages are going to remain the same as the ones you get directly from me. i wrote those pages. if things change, the pages will change.
at the moment i do not have all that much interest in xhip.

take 2 ramp waves, detune slightly, slow attack, slow deacy, lot of sustain, slow release, a sine lfo to one or both of the oscs, filter from about halfway open to all the way open, add resonance to your flavour, and that should pretty much be that basics of some nice strings.Jono-60 wrote:How do I create a nice String pad sound in xhip?

Well that's sad to hear man, you've gone so far with this and you have so many people supporting you, it's rare that you see that on the net.aciddose wrote:at the moment i do not have all that much interest in xhip.
You're making a great synth here, you've had some great offers of people wanting to help with the GUI. As far as my personal testing goes this is a finished synth and a worthy one too. A problem I used to have was never knowing when to finish a track, I'd obsess over the details when the best thing to do was to put it out there and let it fly.
Hope you find your muse......

How do you assign LFO to one OSC only?

I tried to make the string patch following your instructions, however it still sounds 'buzzy'. How do I make it sound smooth? I guess its the filter section I need to look at, but it seems like its not working. I cant hear much difference when moving the sliders here. How do I use it properly?

First of all, i think you want to check how many voices per note you have on. On the last page you can select something to that extend. It should be just 1.Jono-60 wrote:I tried to make the string patch following your instructions, however it still sounds 'buzzy'. How do I make it sound smooth? Secondly, if i remember correctly, you can adjust the resonance and the filter and the input frequency for the waveshaper. If any of those are set in a certain way, you end up getting all sorts of weirdness. It'd be best to set the cutoff and resonance to 0, and play around a bit with the input freq.
Also check out the saturation of the filter, since too much of that will also result in buzzyness.

Jono-60, many ways to make a string pad.
Another approach could be to start with a supersaw. Example: http://xhip.cjb.net/temp/public/basic_strings_2.adxi

Check the filter mode. It's probably set to none, set it to 12 or 24db lowpass.Jono-60 wrote:I tried to make the string patch following your instructions, however it still sounds 'buzzy'. Nope, just using Xhip ADSR sliders. Btw it's just -not very necessary- 3 instances of Xhip, Overtone GEQ and a [great algo reverb].

That's lovely, Bulotaur. Regardless of the sound I like what you've played, even if it was random.
Jono, I'm glad that helped. The patch is pretty basic actually; there's a lot of unused synth potential there (2nd oscillator, waveshaper, 2nd filter, LFOs, ...). Try tweaking all that stuff.
