When my laptop is at home it's connected to NI KORE and through that to my Genelecs. However that only seems to work for everything running ASIO so if I just want to play say an mp3 it still go's out through my laptop speakers or headphone socket. I know I could go into the Control panel and change over to using KORE as my main audio interface and then into Media Player and do the same but then when out and about I'd have to do the same and I remember last time I did this it took ages to set it up again the way I liked. So what I'm looking for is a sort of fast audio switching utility where I can set up say 2 profiles for home and out and just switch easily between them. Does anyone know of one?

I was hoping to avoid having to go into control panel everytime though. I wonder if this is what "Hardware profiles" are for? I've never used that feature and couldn't see a good use for it before.

Yeah, you need to use the Devcon command-line utility from MS...

If you'd use Winamp or Foobar2000 you could just go to their options and find the device setting, change to KORE and that's it. Winamp is great in this, I have it defaulting to my M-Audio FT Pro, but when it's not turned on it plays with the Realtek internal shit.

Over here, my devices (all but Winamp that is, for whatever reason, but I'm still using a very old version) are switching automatically as well.

You can experiment with registry files. All control panel settings are stored there. Export the key values you need, and put these on your desktop, ready to be double-clicked.

Like I said... use Devcon. It allows you turn devices off and on using batch files without having to open up the System Properties dialog. I went through the same scenario and my laptop and this seemed to be the most efficient solution.

Why go thru that trouble just to use WMP? It's not the best audio player for sure.

MediaPlayer is just one example of something that delivers it's sound to the default selected sound device...
