A good audio interface for playing VSTs live?

Hey guys, I currently have a Fireface 800, and although I love it, I need to get something that I use for some simple recordings but more importantly something I can take around and play VSTs live. So latency is extremely important to me, but so is cost since I'm worried about potential theft or damage. What do you guys recommend? I've read a ton of reviews on stuff but almost never any mention of latency.
It has to be under 400 bucks, and I don't need many inputs or outputs, just something basic but works great. Any suggestions?

Hmmm ... does that mean you have issues with the Fireface 800? From what I understood the RME units should be first class regarding latency. Or not?

No, it's wonderful. But I'd A.) Rather not gig with such an expensive unit B.) Don't really want to unscrew the Fireface 800 from my desk and put it back every time I want to go between recording and gigging.
And don't recommend the Fireface 400...I'm trying to keep it under 400 bucks.

OK, thank you for the information. I am short before buying a Fireface 400, so this would have made me suspicius about my decision
