Hi. Has anyone tried or is currently using the MOTU 828mk USB interface? I am interested in this interface and am wondering how well and reliable it performs? I have a Dell laptop which only has USB 2.0 ports. Would this be a good choice for my laptop?

I can't speak for the USB version, but I have the Firewire model, and it has been working flawlessly for several years now.

My Firewire model worked flawlessly for many years. But recently just died for no apparent reason.

Isn't USB limited to just 4 streams? Even on USB2?

In which case a MKII 828 just seems like a bit of overkill. Unless you need the mixer features.

Also, what version of Windows do you have? Be aware that XPSP2 is not supported by MOTU. Unless that has changed now with the new Vista/XP drivers out.
Available on iTunes, Amazon, etc.

You don't have a PCMCIA or Cardbus slot??? (Firewire cards are CHEAP and then you can use a firewire version that stream EVERY channel....)

And I re-itterate... if you're on windows, think twice before you go with MOTU.

If all goes well then you're golden.

But if you have problems, then you're SOL.

I've been using a firewire Motu828mkII for well over a year on an XP laptop daisy-chained to Glyph firewire drive.

ZERO PROBLEMS

You DO have to make sure you have a decent TexasInstruments or Lucent chipset firewire card. Motu says right in their specs that you MUST use one.

Motu bad on Windows is garbage....

Yep, TI. I was running my 828 well over a year. I daresay probably just about longer than anyone else posting here. :)

It's a great interface, but make sure you do your homework first. (TI/Lucent chip, no sp2). I also recommend checking out the user forums first before making any decision.
