Anyone got one? I've got a couple of questions about how it handles samples, but you can't seem to download the manual from Korg's site (yet?).

Yup. What d'you wanna know? (Im at work so it'll be from memory, though)

whoa....i didnt even notice there was a THIRD one...i been on a kp2 for years and i love it.....i thought the entrancer was it.....you just rocked my planet!
what is the dif....is it worth the upgrade? the only problem i have with the kp2 is that lately it suffers from some groundloops issues so i get that humming on my home setup...but it might be bc my room is so small....and my unit is 4 years old now...i got it right when it came out........

kp i can tell you the kp2 grabs 2 samples of up to 8 seconds each and can loop 'em.....you tap out the tempo of to match the track as well....

sampling seems to be a big focus on this 3rd iteration - quite tempted myself - http://www.sonicstate.com/news/shownews.cfm?newsid=3321

Yeah, I've got a KP2 and use it live but want the sampling facilities if they're OK. I don't want to use it for looping, but for triggering FX.

Anyway, the questions are:

- From their spec page, it can have a maximum of 100 samples - how eays is it to trigger them from fron-panel buttons?

- Does it play samples from the SD card or just use the SD card to transfer samples to the KP3?

- How long can each sample be (maximum)? I know there'll be an overall limit based on memory, but there may be a software limit on each one.

- Can the samples *not* be tempo mapped and looped?

- There's a USB port to connect to a PC - how easy is it to transfer samples? To save having to buy an SD card reader (assuming it can play samples from the SD card - see above), I'd like to just plug in a USB cable and drag my samples to the KP3 as if it's a USB storage device. If I can't do this and get a card reader, can I just use explorer to drag samples onto a card which the KP3 will use intelligently (ie. so I can leave the KP3 locked away ready for a gig and just carry the SD card home with me to change samples on).

By the way, my nickname here is kp because my initials are actually kp...in the band where I use the KP2, I'm known as KP1 just to make sure no-one gets confused :-)

Cheers. I think that's all.

(Ah, manual on korg.com, not on korg.co.uk, so I can waste some work time reading it...would still appreciate some "in use" comments though).

Easy to play samples assigned to the pads. Slightly more work to swap samples on a given pad.

The card is storage, basically. You load samples from the card into the KP. Tip; have a small soundset as the first bank, cos that gets loaded automatically when you start the KP.

Cant remember, sorry.

You mean one-shot style? Yes.

Its fairly straightforward....

Yup, although the file/folder naming arrangement is a bit non-intuitive AFAIR.

I can live with non-intuitive. You should see some of the specs I have to deal with at work :-)

Ta.

If noone else does, I'll try and post more in-depth info in a few hours when I get home.

(Oh and I just bought one of the Mini-KP's; should get that in a few days :hyper:)

Hmm, having read through the PDF I downloaded, it's either not clear or it sucks.

There's only 4 samples available at any one time from the buttons (despite there being up to 100 stored on the card), you can't play back from the SD card but have to load into the KP3 (not useable as a gigging tool really then) and you can only access the SD card via explorer if you have it plugged into the KP3 itself, so you need the unit with you at all times.

That's just pretty shit if true.

""- How long can each sample be (maximum)? I know there'll be an overall limit based on memory, but there may be a software limit on each one.""

the samples are measured in beats instead of time. So it depends on the BPM.

Im pretty sure Ive accessed it via a normal card reader.

After formatting with the KP3, it can still be used my a normal card reader. Just be sure to name your samples 00. to 99. that's all you get. You won't need a big SD card becuase of the length and name limit, you won't be able to use much space. However! I bought a 2GB card at Frys for $22.00..Corsair 60x that is.

how can you NOT want one. All you need to do is listen to a live version of Everything in its Right Place to fall in love with her!

Good to know it's accessible from explorer normally (my pet peeve is all the USB mp3 players that don't appear as USB Mass Storage devices and you need their own application...doh!).

But the maximum length (now I've also found the bit) is 16 beats at 74bpm, which is ~13seconds, which isn't guaranteed to be long enough for what I want. And you don't have access to more than 4 samples without arsing around loading from SD - I have enough difficulty live controlling all the things I do now, and the last thing I want is to have to faff around with menus between songs.

I just got mine and my plan is to use it with Live 6, I can easily change clips of any length in live that are associated with the 4 pads.
Also control a world of other things in Live via USB/MIDI.
