do you mean 60s psychedelic sounds?

Post

Yeah... 60s psychedelic sounds. But I'm working a Chemical Breakbeat track, so anything along the lines of the Chemical Brothers...

Kjaerhus Audio's Classic Auto Filter. Try it. You'll like it...tasty

Also, try either the MrDonald or mda Leslie rotating speaker emulations, applied to practically anything: voice, guitar, electric piano, organ. Add some delay and/or phaser.

Don't forget the tron sound.
Even if the piano player can't play, keep the party going.

Very in depth. They mention Hammond organs, but they don't mention that a lot of psychedelic bands were more likely to use the Farfisa organ instead. It had a thinner, more nasal or reedy sound, but it was A) a LOT more portable, and (more importantly); B) A HELL of a LOT cheaper! They also broke down a lot more. Actually, even Philip Glass's ensemble used the Farfisa in the early days (late '60s into the mid-70s) because it was cheap. Glass once laughed that because the keyboards were so cheaply made, he later spent tens of thousands of dollars on sampling keyboards to try and recapture the $250 sound of the Farfisa :hihi: But I digress...

Not sure about free programs that emulate it, but NI's B4 has Farfisa tone banks that are quite good. It also has tone banks for the Vox Continental organ, which is what the Doors used, and I often prefer it to the Hammond sound.

you could try a spot of br0xx3n as an effect to emulate that busted tape deck sound

Yeah... Mushroom is great but I almost blow my monitors out with it...

always stick a limiter on ye master out.

Do you play guitar? A wah wah pedal, a phaser and a fuzzbox would be good to get some psychedelic sounds.

Post

I don't play guitar but the Feb issue of Computer Music has a great artical on guitar processing like David Gilmore, Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, and more. And the cool thing is all the effects used are freeware...
