LUNA PreRelease 8 is out!

----------
What's new
----------

* New: Seamless combination of the easy Rack system and the flexible Modular Plug Area
* New: 3 LUNA Views: Composer Only, Composer + Racks and Composer + Modular Plug Area
Each View memorizes its window position and sizes
Accessible via the Edit menu and via function keys F1/F2/F3
* New: You can dynamically put/pull plugs into/out of a Rack
By using this, you can even move plugs from 1 Rack to another
* New: Choose/Rename/Open/Save VST Program functions in every VST plugin context menu
* New: You can save a session as "New.musession". This will then be the default on choosing "New Session".
* New: Focus Plugin function
* New: Replace Plugin function

* Tuned: Vastly improved Modular Plug Area:
-> Plug Area is 4096 x 2048 pixels big, fully scrollable
-> Mixer Strips, Racks and Sends can be embedded in the Modular Plug Area
-> Improved Auto-Arrange function
-> You can also drop a connection on a plug box itself.
If there are multiple options there, a popup menu appears
-> Connecting in->in, out->out or audio<->event has very user-friendly behaviour
-> Deleting a connection doesn't show a popup when there is only 1 option
-> Plug boxes have fixed width
-> Plug boxes are snapped to a grid for a cleaner setup
-> Focussed plug is more explicitly highlighted
-> Focussed plug has highlighted connections
-> Plug boxes come in front of cables
-> Plugin names are displayed better
-> Bigger connectors
-> Nicer cables

* Tuned: Improved window behaviour on Windows
* Tuned: Improved Level Meters: Nicer graphics
* Tuned: OSX: Improved VST 2.4 compatibility. E.g. NI Reaktor and FM8 editors now properly work!
* Tuned: Assign Midi Controller now works exactly the same for VST plugins with or without an custom editor
* Tuned: Assign Midi Controller now also works even if no vst editor control has been touched yet
* Tuned: No more program changes in Value 2 Editor

* Fixed: Occasional crash bug when deleting a plugin (this was a nasty one, also in previous versions)
* Fixed: OSX: Improved double-click function; in some rare cases double-clicking could have strange artifacts
* Fixed: Automation to Rack Mixer Strips was reloaded but not properly assigned
* Fixed: Automated mutes on Racks and Mixer Strips now properly played back

------------
Installation
------------

Download the package for your platform from http://www.mutools.com/downloads.html

Unzip the package to a new folder on your harddisk.

If you want, you can then copy your current LUNA Settings files (Luna/Settings subfolder) to the new LUNA/Settings subfolder.

This way, you can start right away with your current settings.

Enjoy this new LUNA :wink:

Thanks, Jo! :love:

Arrrgh! New toy available and here I am running out the door to an acting class! :D This sounds great, Jo, can't wait to play with it. I've very interested to see how the rack and modular ways of working have been blended together.

Bug report #1:
f3, click a rack, right click, remove, yes -> crash (459K). Happens on "Dummy" entries, too.

Bug report #2:
Turn on Embed Racks and Embed Sends. Drag the racks so they overlap. Clicking the "titlebar" brings a rack to the front -- but it leaves the titlebar behind! See "Rack C"...

Yes, the same thing happens to me as well.

Um, when a plugin's in a rack, how do I access it's UI..? The [e] button's gone...

Autoarrange - can you add more layout hints?
1) Sends should be lower down than their inputs.
2) Outputs from sends should be lower down than the send.

I was stumped by that one for a while, but I finally figured it out. Just double click (quickly) on the plugin's slot in the rack.

You know that "I'm sure I tried that... but it works now" response..? Well... ;) Thanks!
<edit>D'uh! I found what confused me. I was trying to double click the "output" slot on a rack, expecting it to open the target...</edit>

Just to let you know, I'm having a difficult transition from PR 7b to PR 8. Even the simplest tune crashes for me.....
So I deleted the seetings folder to start from scratch, set up VSTs again etc. Luna crashes when I try to set up a rack with Demo.MuSession. Lots of crashes other times too!
I hope it's something I don't "get" about racks.

Hanging notes when clicking about on the keyboard in the Piano roll during playback.
Other than that, everything fine and dandy here :D

The missing [e] button confused me at first too. Goes to show how quickly you get used to stuff.

Hi Jo,

Just tried 8 - you continue to rock the house! The new modular routing is pretty cool - it adds pretty much unlimited power to routing of synths and effects.

I also really like the way it sits in the background unless you need it, yet works seemlessly with the rack-only view.

That said, I'm running into similar crash bugs that pljones is reporting about the modular interface. Sometimes, just opening the window causes it to die.

One suggestion - 7b seems to be the most stable version since 4 - I'd suggest that you continue to keep it up on your web site.

Thought - Keep a known stable version + a latest and greatest (all the new toys for us to test and break for you! ;) ) You don't want to turn off people who download something like the 7.0 version and then think Luna is bug ridden - get 'em hooked, and then get their 39 euros.

I know that you have a goal not to do beta's, but if you let us help you find the bugs, you can spend more time creating more killer features.

Keep up the good work, man!

A new installation stopped all the crashes. I can load my old projects too, with VSTs found.

Now I have no sound, and the play icon/space bar don't start tunes. I had this some time back but can't remember how I fixed it. (Quit then restart didn't help.)

Got it going now. In the Audio Setup stage click on Built-in Audio before going "OK".
