Has anyone come across a good clap sample? I'm looking for a single clap from a large group of people. The application is a song where I want it to appear that a large group of people are clapping along, so I can take the single clap sample and trigger it on beats 2 and 4 of the entire song.

I've been through any number of google pages and haven't come up with anything appropriate. Oh, how I wish I had gotten one at my live CD recording two years ago. Well, live and learn.

What I have done is to take 2 or 3 of different sounding claps, and vary their start times by a few ticks.

For example, say you have 3 samples, A, B, C.

In measure 1, beat 2 (1:02), A starts a few ticks before the beat, B right on the beat and C a few ticks after the beat. At 1:04, vary them again, A right on the beat, B a few ticks late and C a few ticks before the beat.

Then repeat the process for measures, 2, 3 and 4. Vary the amount of tick differential as much as possible from beat to beat. Then I would just loop these four measures.

It should be enough to "fill out" the space, and replicate a group of people, who would never ever clap at the same time every single beat ;-)

Better still, do as torhan said and make an odd loop instead of four bars .. even more (pseudo) randomness.

Indeed, what Torhan says... Load a whole bunch of different samples, and record midi notes manually with variation of velocity, without quantising on different tracks for each sample. That way you'll get closer.

Sounds like a good option might be to create a small soundfont with a bunch of different clap samples on adjacent keys and then do a messy cluster on beats two and four.

I can do that. I excell at messy clusters...

Thanks for the help, everyone.

I never tire to recommend the ultra great handclap set from this site:

Drumular has a very fine clap module which you can layer up with samples or indeed with other clap modules set with different parameters (e.g. number of "claps", space between claps). VERY flexible and definitely worth considering.

Yes...forgot to mention that.

If you need a big selection of clap sounds, this might be a sample pack for you:

Haven't got it myself but I'm consider buying it since I'm on a hunt for good clap samples myself. Not that expensive either.
That's some kick ass 4 bars of music...
I'll finish it some other day...

xoxos has a large samplepack, has has at least 50 diofferent clap sounds in it..and its free....i dont have a link to it, but if u look it up, youll find it....i use these in the FPC in vcruityloops when i want multiple claps at once...i just load all 50 into one pad, and randomly select the velocity settings on it, so it triggers different samples together everyt ime i trigger it...then add some reverb, and you got a nice group of people clapping...

the freebies from Sam Project has some great claps and stomps.
called "various perc" or something.
but not sure if it's available now.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I submit to you my first soundfont: clapfont.

Play large messy clusters around middle C and you get a large group of people all clapping, more or less, at once. Thanks to those here who recommended this, and to the Free Sound Project for storing lots of clap samples.

You'll find the best clap in Da Nang.

Sorry, I've done several searches for Da Nang and have come up dry. Could you provide a link?
