Hey-

Ive been recently eyeing the Marantz PMD-671 and Audio Technica AT4073a combination to keep with me via backpack so that i may take my studio "on the road" so to speak. Whilst researching.. I stumbled across the Behringer BCD2000. Its a 130USD piece of novice dj gear, but it has 1 48v phantom xlr in, as well as two phono preamps [which i could use for old turntables i want keep in the trunk of my car].

Now heres where im really thinking it would be better than a dat like device..

If I utilized this harness: http://www.standalonelaptop.com/
with my laptop running nuendo, could the bcd2000 be used as an audio device, so that I could field record? This review mentions ASIO compliancy: http://createdigitalmusic.com/2006/05/2 ... er-review/
but doesn't specifically mention multitracking support [programs like cubase, etc...]

Also, if it does work as an input source for Nuendo.. Will it affect the quality of the project? [in terms of bit depth etc..]

Any info is greatly appreciated!

You can forget field recording: needs the 250V AC, 7 watt power adapter. Nothing suggests it can be powered through USB alas.

Having skimmed through the manual (always read that if you're interested!) it seems to function as a normal 4-channel ASIO interface as well. Your PC gets two stereo outputs, and at least one stereo input. The control panel is a bit confusing on this... Recording two tracks while having four outputs should be sufficient for most purposes. This doesn't limit the number of tracks in your host.

It says the following in the spec sheet:
Distortion (THD) 0.01%
Frequency response 15 Hz - 21 kHz, +0/-3 dB
I've seen better figures... But the price/feature ratio seems pretty good.

Oh, why get the AT shotgun mic? Is this for field recording also? Not the best choice for DJing I think...

yeah i want to do some field recording [mostly indoors so the AC problem is no big].. but i also like the freedom of being able to keep a pair of old turntables and maybe a midi controller (usb) in my car, so wherever i am i can rig up a temporary studio. i can make rough drafts at a friends place, or utilize select locations i otherwise would be unable to [my friends office has a warehouse with great reverb].. Then when i get to my main studio i can transfer the projects to my DAW.

[btw.. i use serato scratch on the tables to map the samples im collecting over the vinyl for manipulation.. so theyre used more like a sampler/instrument rather than djing- i was a bit vague about that, sorry for the confusion.]

Tascam US-144 is USB powered and fabulous. I have one for the laptop and it's awesome.
