Thanks for looking! Absolutely, being a string machine junkie as I am, my next purchase will be GMedia's virtual string machine. I think this will have the only Freeman String Symphoniser samples that there are around. Of course I already bought the schematics of the real thing.

If YOU EVER get the time/inclination, you should check out 'The Orchestron'.

The Orchestron originated with the Optigan, a curious product brought out by the toy company, Mattel, in the early '70s. The Optigan was not unlike the Mellotron in principle but used optical disks instead of tapes as the source of sounds. These disks came with sounds such as organ and others and also rhythms (the usual complement of Latin American Beguines, Cha-chas, etc.). It was aimed at the 'home' market as an alternative to electronic organs by providing 'real' instruments.

I'd LOVE to see that monster in a decent ensemble...

The one you show was a specially designed version for Patrick Moraz. I don't know if they ever produced more than the one for him. They had another multi-keyboard model that I'm not sure was ever produced...if so it was only in VERY small numbers. The commercially available one, though, only had one keyboard. Kraftwerk used it on Radio Activity and Trans Europe Express (I think they used some of the strings, but definitely used the vocals from it).

AFAIK there is only one complete sample set available of it (http://www.optigan.com/shoptigan.html) and it's still selling for $199

But it has more than just the Orchestron, which didn't sell enough to have very many sounds made for it: "included on the CD-ROM are all of the chord loop sets for all of the Optigan and Talentmaker discs, and all of the keyboard scales for the Optigan, Orchestron and Talentmaker."

The Orchestron itself only had:
Cello
Vocal Choir
Flute
French Horn
Hammond B3
Pipe Organ
Saxophone
Violin

I'm only really interested in the Vocal Choir, Violin and maybe Cello. All the other sounds on the CD would fall into the semi-if-at-all useful or novelty category, so it's too expensive for me.

I picked up the ProSamples Vol. 55 Retro Sampler collection (http://www.soundsonline.com/ProSamples- ... -PS55.html), which is about $40, because it has samples of the Orchestron vocals and violin . . . but neither turn out to be samples of the whole Orchestron Scales (loops of each note), but rather very sparse samples spread over too much of the keyboard. The violin set is way better than the vocals, though. I used the strings on my song Behrlinesque. The vocal samples are practically unusable

I love the vocals as used by Kraftwerk on Europe Endless and would LOVE to have a complete Orchestron set of them.

And while we're on the Orchestron topic . . . just found this interesting band that uses only Optigan, Orchestron and Mellotron with a female vocalist that's reminding me of Dagmar Krause from Slap Happy (some say Kate Bush, but I don't know her work really):

-Been trying to get access to these kind of sounds for absolutely ages, and I am saving (badly so far!) for the G-Media baby. But your freebies sound just AWESOME!!
