I know this isn't an IK forum but it's the closest thing I know.

I don't understand why it's taking IK so long to come out with the UB version of Sampletank 2 LE. The full version of Sampletank was updated quite a while ago now.

to tie this in with Sonic Reality - the only reason I want a UB update is so that I can play with Squids Tron Collection again. I miss it.

man, would i love for you to forward me that support response. when i talked to them recently, i was told flat out that they never said there would be one and they never had plans for one. they offered me a tiny discount to upgrade to the l or xl version. it seems they figure it's a good way to force people to upgrade. i mean, come on, if l and xl have ub's, then there would be almost no effort in creating a ub for le. that company sucks.

can you confirm any of this?

this could cause a lot of problems with anyone who buys a STLE product thinking they will eventually be able to use it on their intel mac.

maybe esoundz should have an advisory on their STLE-powered products that they will NEVER be compatible with intel macs unless you pay $$$ to upgrade to XL or whatever.

I thought the whole point of bundling particular sound sets with LE was for people that wanted the content but had no use for the full version of ST.

given the fact that they obviously have the ability to update LE and instead are choosing not to in order to force people to spend money on an upgrade is really crappy. Unless their upgrade to XL is around the same price as other companies are charging for UB updates (ususally around $30) then I guess I'm screwed because I have no desire to pay $$$ for something I don't need in order to use something I already have.

man I'm steamin' mad about this now.

I just want to say that I have nothing against SR/Esoundz -

in fact, I've helped advertise several of their group buys and own several of their libraries (my favorite of which I won't ever be able to use again apparently)

those are direct quotes from several support emails...i didn't include the whole emails, because they contain a bunch of confusing broken english and also some responses to my accusations that they have hidden the fact that there is not a ub for the le version. you can believe that or not, but no where on their site does it say that there isn't one, though it says plenty of times that samplitude 2 now has a ub. i did not find out until after i registered and went to the update page. i asked them to de-register my copy, so i could sell/trade it here without having to pay a ridiculous transfer fee on their "free" version, but was ignored and only recieved there "very special" discount offer.

there are actually two messages:

one I sent in November asking when the UB for STLE would be ready (the response being "we're not sure of the date yet" - which of course implies that there WILL BE A DATE IN THE FUTURE)

and the other one I posted here

Squids - can you talk some sense into these people. Otherwise I think I should be able to sell Squids Tron Collection without the stupid $99 transfer fee (even though I REALLY don't want to sell it).

even after some sleep I'm still steaming about this and I'm normally a very level-headed guy. I just don't like being lied to or being strung along for months waiting for something only for someone to decide that they are not going to offer that something afterall.

well, i'm sorry to mr. williams if he feels hurt that this is displayed on a public forum, but i really feel like it is justified. it's really obvious that this is a marketing ploy. if someone could explain otherwise, i'd be happy to listen. le is obviously the same code as l and xl, minus a handful of features. putting out a ub would take no effort.

on the other hand i do recognize a developer's frustration with the extra time and money spent on producing universal binaries. i've been hit a few times with small upgrade fees. it's not wrong to expect to be compensated for for the effort, but it is wrong to trick people into paying you more money by making the status of the product very unclear. it's too bad that ik multimedia has done this, because it hurts allot of third party companies that sell their samplepacks and they really have nothing to do with this problem.

it's funny because at this very moment i'm getting ready to download an absolutely free update to kontakt player 2 for garritan personal orchestra. this is not only a ub update but an update of the player from 1 to 2. i would have happily paid for this update, but garritan and native instruments have generously made the update free. as a result i will buy from both companies again without fearing these sorts of episodes.
