I know all this, used cubase for years since VST. SL woud work like a charm with VSTi:s with automation but they just dont link together, miditrack and vsti automation, so like audiotracks and their fx can easily and <3 charmingly automated and when you copy a part automation follows - it just dont work with midi+vstiautomation. So i decided to buy cubase4 since it hat instrument tracks and there are midi&pluginautomation linked together.
If you know the way to copy vsti automation with mididata in SX3, let me know.

I just told you in my last post...Trilobiitti wrote:If you know the way to copy vsti automation with mididata in SX3, let me know.
"There is also a function to have automation follow the MIDI event when copying or moving if you go to Edit > Automation Follows Events."

hmm.. see, i know and use that.. really working for audiotrack and mixer automation. but that option just works if the automation is really in the channels automation "droplist/automationtracks".. in midichannel controlling VSTi there is a different situation. See, as i said, VSTi automation is not linked to the midi notes, there are 2 different tracks, midi channel and automation found in vsti automation folder. That function _does_dot_understand_ that. If only you could just link channel and vstiautomation.. no can do. thats one reason i am buying cubase 4, it has instrument tracks as i sayed, vsti and midiautomation lay under the track and are linked to the channel.

Oh yeah, I guess I forgot about the fact that I am running Cubase 4 already...Trilobiitti wrote:hmm.. see, i know and use that.. really working for audiotrack and mixer automation. but that option just works if the automation is really in the channels automation "droplist/automationtracks".. in midichannel controlling VSTi there is a different situation. Hi,
I'm downloading the manual right now to check it out myself, but maybe one of you knows the answer:
I record live bands mostly and am looking for a better controller to replace my Behringer bcR (host=Cubase, currently SX3). I'm using a mixing desk and the bcF in MCU-mode for levels, but I've made some generic remote-templates for the bcR to control inserts and plugins.
Can I use a RemoteSL(zero) in a way that is ergonomical to me ? And I mean:
- assigning plugins from the controller
- selecting a plugin from the controller and change it's parameters which are displayed on the lcd ?
- if possible open/close plugin edit window from the controller ?
- go through presets from the controller (generic remote doesn't do this which is a major pita)
- do my laundry ?
TIA,
Herwig

Does anyone know if I have to have Cubase sx3 or beyond for the Automapping to work? I don't have a fancy computer so I won't go into major details but... it's a PC. I managed to finally install after a few audio card conflicts but, when i open the Automapped VST in Cubase SX... no response. The template loads on the SL screens but there's no response to any knob movements from SX. I saw that I have to the midi input as SL 2 but when I have that input selected I get no midi response at all in SX... no keys play at all! Not sure what else to say. Hopefully someone has advice though it seems noone here has my computing limitations ( low RAM... no Super CPU). Thanks

By this I would assume you mean assigning plugins to an insert or effect slot via the controller. There is no API to do this remotely in Cubase so no controller could be designed to do so (possibly in a future version of Cubase?).
- selecting a plugin from the controller and change it's parameters which are displayed on the lcd ?
Yes, that is exactly what Automap Universal does.
- if possible open/close plugin edit window from the controller ?
No, again, there is no API to open/close edit windows via controllers.
- go through presets from the controller (generic remote doesn't do this which is a major pita)
Yes, assuming the plugin accepts standard MSB/LSB program change messages, the SL transmits them from the center multi-purpose encoder.
- do my laundry ?
If only...

Everything I have seen in Novation support docs says Cubase SX3/SL3/4/Studio 4 and there is no mention of 2. I would think the way the Automap server connects to the plugins thrgouh Rewire would mean that any Rewire compatible host should work with plug-in automap. This question might be better suited to Novation support.j/luna wrote:Does anyone know if I have to have Cubase sx3 or beyond for the Automapping to work? Yes there is, my bcF in MCU mode is able to select a plugin on an insert.Omniphonix wrote: - assigning plugins from the controller

Yes again (- if possible open/close plugin edit window from the controller ?
No, again, there is no API to open/close edit windows via controllers.
These functions are available in the generic remote and mcu, so I'm guessing they'll be available in the remoteSL as well... (hoping)
Thanks for the answers, I think I'm gonna try to get one on a 30-day-eval period (anyone know a European internet-store that does this ?) and try myself. €300 is a good price if it suits my way of working.

It can be assigned to pull up insert effect edit panels? I coulda swore I have been through every assignable function in Cubase remote config... Well I would imagine if you can customize the setup of the ReMOTE for the Cubase mixer, then you should have no problems assigning this, there are tons of buttons. Keep in mind, control surface mode is a separate template on the SL from plug-in automap. I can't imagine it would be more intuitive than a mouse though, I would guess a number of button presses to get to the plugin you want.deadpoet wrote:Yes there is, my bcF in MCU mode is able to select a plugin on an insert.Omniphonix wrote: - assigning plugins from the controller

No, again, there is no API to open/close edit windows via controllers.) In the generic remote setup there is an option to assign 'edit' to a controller.

.. just wanned you to know..
i complained before about cubase sx3 automationtracks.. seems that the answer was, i really hadn't gotten used to use automation on vsti:s, and soforth, never even got familiar with it.
I just today (2 days before buing C4) realized that instrument tracks in C4 are incompatible with multitimbran plugs, so i diggen further into sx3 automation.. i can put miditrak inside pluginautomationtrack or automationtrack just under it (<- that i knew before) and copypaste midi WITH automation using the range tool, everything copyes on fine and if i want to change preset or do some tweaking i can mute individual automationtrack/s.. so it works with sl like a charm. I wont be upgrading to C4, not untill they got multi instrument track and chidechain, dx platform is allso on the table and rumoured to happen.. would be waist of money imho to buy it now.

That's true, you can't use C4 instrument tracks for more than one stereo output. The only time I really use multi-out plugins though are for drums which I don't automate much. Either way, there are workarounds as you have posted above.Trilobiitti wrote:.. just wanned you to know..

Just wanted to let you know that I've upgraded from a BCR2000 to the Remote 61 SL...my BCR will forever collect dust next to my broken amp. This thing is Lightyears ahead of the BCR...and I LOVED the BCR until I got the SL.
Do yourself the favor...the 30 day trial will not be necessary

i took back my sl remote 61 as it just didnt map properly and i dont think it ever will even with updates, the fact that you end up having to spend loads of time programming the bloody thing defeats the object, i ended up getting a pcr800 edirol instead, really nice keyboard, you have to program mst of it but it feels well built and solid, i also like the cross fade on it to fade between two different parameters, you get some wicked effects. idrol advised me the are bring out some vsti control maps for it soon also. the editong software you get with it is a piece of piss too. if the marketing of the sl remote stuff was more honest as was the price it would be a good pice of kit but its too expsive, if you want proper remote mapping get a device with machie universl.

I don't get what you mean by "didn't map properly". I have Automap 3.0 (Universal) loaded on my SL and it works like a charm. I put it in learn mode, move a control on my plugin, move a control on my SL, and it maps. Then I can save that mapping as the default and it will control any instance I bring up in any host. I was even able to copy the .automap in the default Mappings directory to another computer and use my custom map on another computer. In fact, the only funky issue I have run into is, I have to close the Automap Server before I can close Cubase because it runs as a ReWire client.stoolz wrote:i took back my sl remote 61 as it just didnt map properly and i dont think it ever will even with updates, the fact that you end up having to spend loads of time programming the bloody thing defeats the object, i ended up getting a pcr800 edirol instead, really nice keyboard, you have to program mst of it but it feels well built and solid, i also like the cross fade on it to fade between two different parameters, you get some wicked effects. idrol advised me the are bring out some vsti control maps for it soon also. the editong software you get with it is a piece of piss too. if the marketing of the sl remote stuff was more honest as was the price it would be a good pice of kit but its too expsive, if you want proper remote mapping get a device with machie universl.
