As for a way around it...not sure, but if you are scanning plugs after a project has been created then click on the Devices: menu top right on the Project start page and choose Import plugins from folder or Import plugin, one of those options especially the second, should get around Podium scanning RMIV if it is not supposed to be used in other hosts.

Yeah, I may have to try that. I just tried again, and it stopped on RMIV Tracktion edition again. I do organize my plugins, so I'll just have to exclude the drums folder, and then import the rest of it. Of course, it will probably stop on other Tracktion plugins as well.

You would just think that it would accept your click and move on, but it doesn't. The only way is to end through task manager. So maybe it's a bug?

Fritz, if you need more info, let me know. I'll give you whatever I can.

Man I sure hope to be able to buy this soon. Hard to say how long it will be though. :(

Brent, XT2 will soon be ready (you're an eXT user) and you've showed great enthusiasm here about what Tracktion 3 will be. So I have always been amazed a bit by your great and continuous interest in posting on REAPER (stating 87 or so times that it wasn't really an app for you :D) , and now you want to buy Podium which no doubt is a fine piece of software. But again I wonder: what is missing for you in the Tracktion - eXT combo that soon will include the long awaited and highly promising XT2?

Thanks to all who answered the question about the Windows registry entries. I feel better about demoing the latest version knowing this information.

[Some demos in the past (notably Sonar, P5 and FL) left an amazing amount of garbage in my registry long after they were removed on an old laptop, and it was only after buying a heavy-duty registry cleaner that I got performance back up to scratch with my other software.]

Cheers

@ Zynewave: please please really hassle the Props to get that Rewire issue resolved with them. Perhaps, as Justin said, it takes more persistence than expected  But I'm surely not the only Reason user out there who is just waiting to use Podium as a partner, and if the app is as rock solid as heavy users claim then it seems like the partnership made in heaven :D

The big thing that I like in Podium is the surround mixing. I don't have that in my other solutions. And I've been wanting to do some things with that. Plus, the amount of customization you can do with the interface is indeed nice. The automation is fantastic. Stuff like that.

For the most part, there aren't too many gaps in what I use, compared to what I need. EXT2 is going pretty well, but I don't use it yet for anything, as I use EXT1 as a plugin anyways. And T3 meets my needs for everything else. But surround mixing is worth the price of Podium alone. Plus, it has other nice features to boot.

Pertaining to Reaper, I have indeed been posting more about it. I have a genuine interest in Reaper and it's development. And to be completely honest, the thought has been in my mind to purchase it. But something just isn't quite right yet with it. I WANT to like Reaper more, but at this time, it just doesn't do it for me.

I don't just post for the heck of it though. No, it's not for me right NOW. So I do state that quite often, usually out of habit, but not to poke at Reaper or anything. But as you said in your curiosity, what does Reaper do for me that I need? Well, nothing at this time. Maybe some day. And I know that I'll be keeping an eye on it and even making posts about it. All out of genuine curiosity.

But when I tried Podium, I just found that it fits me. The look and feel of the app really grabbed my attention, and was clean and fresh. The developer is very responsive, and the roadmap in the forums seems to fit exactly what I'm wanting in an app.

Among other things, I'd like to support Fritz.

So at this time, my reasoning is primarily surround mixing, plus the fact that sometimes a fresh look can raise inspiration. T3 and EXT2 will still meet pretty much everything else for now.

Brent - I know jack shit about surround mixing as it's never really interested me (far too incompetent mixing in two channels to start worrying about more :hihi:), but I'm supposing that REAPER cannot do surround mixing?

I don't understand why you would suppose that? Not everybody has to prefer Reaper or feel entirely at home with it - even if it eventually does absolutely *everything* :?

If Brent prefers Podium that is entirely his choice and is not a slight on any other software programme. Personal choice, character, preference, etc is a GOOD thing.

I supposed that because Brent said - what Podium does that Traktion/Ext does not and that he needs is surround mixing.

And then he said that REAPER does nothing he needs at the moment.

So I just drew the conclusion that it doesn't actually do surround mixing.

**Quick Edit**
My post didn't really have anything to do with preferences.

No, Reaper can't do it at the moment.

Surround mixing requires special use of the outputs, and the ability to export as a surround file.

I didn't take the post as anything other then curiosity, just for the record. But yeah, even if both had surround, Podium seems to fit better in the short time I've tried it. Now, I may keep working with it and realize that it doesn't do as much as I thought, or that I don't like it. But for right now, it fits better.

well, good for you. I guess you're right there; even if we talk about software (no a manifest feast of the senses..), comparing and valuing features and workflows etc, in the end for me as well it's very much the feel of an app that's decisive. I had that in earlier days with CE, later with eXT and now with REAPER. As you might know. The right feel stimulates productivity, so I'd say buy Podium asap and make some great music.

And do check the amazing (most of the free) plugins by JM Duchenne, the French master of surround mixing: http://acousmodules.free.fr/the_plugins.htm
Tutorials on using these in Podium, REAPER and eXT: http://acousmodules.free.fr/acousmodules7_en.htm

Thanks for reminding me of those plugins alex. I have used them lightly before, but there are still small limitations if the host doesn't support surround.

And well said with the statement "the right feel stimulates productivity". Sometimes, that is more important then any feature set. Tracktion has done this for me from day one, and I remember that great feeling when I tried it and just felt inspired. It took me a while with EXT, but eventually, I just got it.

Now with Podium, same thing. Not quite like it was with Tracktion, but just messing around made me want to do some music. I love that feeling.

I think often that the discussions can get heated when talking about hosts purely because people forget about "the right feel". It's too easy to compare features. But hey, in all honesty, there are features that Cubase and Sonar have that no other host has, including Reaper, Tracktion, Podium, and EXT, even combined. So why use any of these? Because they fit better.

And that is more important then any status-gaining feature set.

Funny really, but to be completely honest I'm in two minds about whether that would be a good thing or not...

Just some thoughts, but to be honest I am kinda concerned by some of this discussion. What a fickle bunch we can all be!!

Another thing with the feel though. I did say that I WANT to like Reaper more. But that doesn't mean that I do. I fired up Podium for the first time, and I didn't have to try, or want to. I just liked it instantly. Now, I still don't understand everything in it completely, which is why I will be running through the demo and such some more. But I didn't have to fight to like it. I didn't have to convince myself that I liked it.
