I'm very impressed with Podium

Thats it for me as well, "It just feels right" I used Cubase for a long time, even knew how to use it well, but it didn't feel right for some reason. I'll probably never be able to put my finger on it. I felt pushed away from the app when I made music with it. Like I didn't really want to use it...

It's strange how that happens...

I fired up Podium for the first time, and I didn't have to try, or want to. I just liked it instantly. Now, I still don't understand everything in it completely, which is why I will be running through the demo and such some more. But I didn't have to fight to like it. I didn't have to convince myself that I liked it.

Amen to that. I know exactly what you mean. But I cant say how or why right now. Its early days. I have only been trying the demo for a couple of hours but its got a good feel to it, thats for sure.

I cant belive that I'm raving about a program that I only just grabbed the demo of last night.

I did the same with EXT though, and that turned out great.

I guess it should accept your user input by clicking during the scanning process, but I suspect because Podium is being asked to scan plugs it cannot access, it is causing unexpected problems for the scanning process.

If RMIV (the Mackie only version) is not supposed to be used in other hosts it is propbably then better to avoid scanning it to be on the safe side. Whatever prevention method Mackie have used to avoid certain plugs being used in other hosts may be conflicting with Podium's scanning process. Just guessing.

Really it is just much easier to simply let Podium scan the plugs you *do* want to use in it.

I have been scanning plugs in Podium successfully for a very long time. Almost 100 plugs with no problems.

Not sure if you have seen these videos produced by a Podium user (Podianer)...they are well worth a look if you are starting to demo Podium...

Well, like I said, I think I'll just move the drums directory until after the full scan, then just scan the plugs I want from that directory. I guess I'd have to do that with the other T only plugins as well. But it shouldn't be too much of a problem, I wouldn't think.

And no, I hadn't seen those videos yet. Thanks!

Cool....I hope it all works out for you

I'm going through all the tutorials for Podium now, and last night. And I'm finding a certain logic behind it all that just rocks. The way that the "bounce tracks" work is phenomenal. Why hasn't anyone else thought of that? Pretty much an automatic freeze, and very flexible.

I'm going to get more into some more tutorials today. But just wanted to say that what I'm seeing now is fantastic. I hope to be able to fit this into the budget.

I do have one question, if anyone knows the answer.

I create a new project, then a new arrangement. By default, this new arrangement has a master track, an audio out track(I think), and a MIDI track with one of my VSTi's on it.

Ok, so that's great. But for some reason, as soon as I "Shift+Space" to turn on the plugins, I start to get a loud hissing, which I'm presuming to be a feedback loop. Very nasty. If I delete the audio out track and just route the VSTi to the master track, all is fine. But for some reason, leaving it as it creates the loud noise. Am I doing something wrong? I don't think so, as this is the default arrangement setup.

Any ideas?

The default audio track has an audio-input assigned for recording, so that's probably what causes the feedback. You can bypass the input mapping with the "X" button.

Cool, thanks. So in what situations will this be ideal to keep as the default method? Is it just not designed to work with an onboard sound of my laptop? Sorry, I'm a bit tired today so my logical thinking is not present.

Fritz, I'm pretty close to making a decision on this software. I am going to have to move some money around to make it happen, but I think that if at all possible, I'd like to support what you are doing.

Just one thing. Is there ANY way, PRETTY PRETTY PLEASE, that you can at least CONSIDER at some point once you implement Rewire to let Podium be a SLAVE to a Rewire host? You would have the biggest fan in the entire world, and I promise I'd do what I can to help you out.

I don't know how many others would use this, but I think it would attract MANY more sales to consider making it not only a rewire host, but also the ability to slave to another host. I would bet your sales would increase with that option.

My buying decision will not be based on if you do it or not, and I'm aware that you don't know when Propellerheads will get back to you. But could you consider it?

Thanks for your help. I'll be in touch.

When you have an ordinary microphone or line in (for hardware instruments) hooked up as your audio input.

Good point. I guess I just wasn't understanding the exact way that the routing structure was working. But thinking about it, that makes sense. Right now, I just have these two mics on my laptop monitor(for stereo recording through the laptop). So maybe having those so close just created the feedback loop? At least that's what I assumed.

Also, I just had a crash. No error messages or anything, and I'm not sure it wasn't something I did. But I just clicked the button in the lower left(monitoring button) twice, and it just disappeared. I can't get it to do it again, no matter how hard I try. I'll let you know if I find anything that can reproduce it.

Oh, and the reason I'm still using this thread is because it won't let me register over at the Zynewave forums. Otherwise, I'd post some of this over there. But every time I try to enter in the security number from the image thingy, it says it's not correct. I tried four times and it locked me out.

Sure, I'll consider it. What host would you slave Podium to?

Plugins are loaded/unloaded when you toggle monitoring on/off. Can you remember what plugins you had assigned to tracks when the crash happened?

:) This is fast becoming the #1 FAQ. I did a small trick to the visual confirmation code to get rid of automated fake/spam account registrations. Read the info to the left of the visual code input field. Before I did this modification there were about 10 fake account registrations each day, and I was getting tired of deleting spam posts and fake users.

I will try registering again once it lets me. I cleared my cache and everything, but it still says that I've tried too many times for this session. No biggie though. I'll just post here until then.

As for slaving Podium, it would be to Tracktion. And these two together would ROCK. So if that happens, you will have your new biggest fan!

When it crashed, it was still only on the default arrangement. Nothing changed. I believe it was a Kontakt Player 2 based instrument that it loaded by default on the track. But it was in the state that the default arrangement makes. However, like I said, I can't reproduce it, and I've been trying hard! So it could have just been one of those little OS quirks or sometihng. I'm not too concerned about it, but will let you know if it happens again.
