Actually, there is a snap-to-slope feature implemented right now. If you have an interval chosen then try holding shift or alt while you drag a point around in the editor. I think I have it set so shift locks relative to the point to the left of what you're dragging, and alt locks to slope from the point on the right.

:)
Wow...awesome. OK, I gotta mess around with this plugin!!!

Very cool vid!

At first I thought: "the fruity scratcher can do this," but then you started going into regions and markers...very cool and worth checking oput 8)

...wonderful tutorial and some very intelligent features :!: - can't wait to test the final version...

...too bad you can't sell FL Studio for its Wave-Traveller is almost the only thing I'm using there...

...but please, make it skinable :D...

Great idea to make a tutorial vid on youtube.

One question : are you limited to those round edges on the scratch graph ?
Because the possibility to adjust the "slope" combined with muting participated a great deal to the realism of wave traveller.

I've never used Wave Traveller, but I'm looking at the website for it now. Are you talking about how the spline shapes can be changed between segments? I was trying to keep the breakpoint editor in Scratcher relatively simple and "realistic" as far as how it acted, with a constant smoothing that doesn't change between points. It seems to me like using different splines, or even scaling the same spline between motions, would be the equivalent of changing hands with every motion.

With a real hand there is arguably a fastest acceleration/speed it can comfortably go and it will start to get less accurate up and around that. If you try to scratch any faster than you are capable, you will start losing detail and get sloppy. That's the basic concept behind the "curving" algorithm that I used for Scratcher. The humanized/robotic control sets where the speed limit is. My impression of Wave Traveller's spline controls is that there is no distinction between fast and slow with regards to accuracy, and everything follows the exact set spline. Scratcher is operating on an entirely different principle.

As a side note, the curve that currently shows up in the breakpoint editor for Scratcher is not an accurate representation of the actual smoothing taking place. Right now it is there to serve as a reminder of approximately where the accuracy is set. I'm working on replacing it with a visual representation that will show *exactly* what is happening as the accuracy is adjusted, but it is not yet finished. I am sorry if it is confusing to people who used Wave Traveller in the past, as it gives the impression that spline curves are being used where they are not.

You can easily adjust Scratcher to be more robotic and add more breakpoints in to create whatever slope or shape that you want. I'm not sure how much more complicated I'd like to make that aspect of it (and I also don't want to rip features directly from Wave Traveller), although I do have plans for eventually being able to draw curves in with the mouse.

I hope that makes sense.

can you snap to grid when selecting mute parts? (if not it would be a handy option)

also if you could save mutes as a separate format & ad them to a scratch that would be way cool!!

:)

Yes, hold shift while you're selecting to snap to the grid. It's set for 32nd notes right now, I believe. It also works when you're doing Alt + drag to select a box. Eventually the grid will be customizable for snapping and the number of divisions per beat/measure.
Also, I have plans to make options for loading only the movement from a saved scratch, only the mutes, or the whole thing like it is setup for right now :D

Dammit, I hoped for something like this for ages before knowing the FL scratcher and the WaveTraveller.

awesome job with that plugin.

This is a little picture to show how the "humanizing" works. The top picture is the robotic version, and the next two show how the curves *really* change as the control is adjusted for less accuracy.

The shots are taken from a slightly updated version of the GUI. I've also managed to get the current file settings (opened wave file, opened scratch browser folder, and opened midi mapping) to save inside of hosts :)

I'll try to get a version out with these updates and a couple more pretty soon, but school is killing me this week.
