What is that sound?

Greetings,
I am looking for samples or perhaps a dedicated virtual instrument that can reproduce Bass Slides (probably not the correct term but it's as close as I can get). I am not sure if the sound is produced using a glass or metal slide and my suspicion is that no glass or metal slide was used. I think the instrument used is a fretless bass or perhaps an upright acoustic bass, but I could be wrong.

I have tried a few virtual samplers but so far none have been able to produce the "slide" effect. The only published music that I can recall that uses this technique is a song by Michael Hedges. But I don't have the title for that song.

Sorry for the lack of detailed information. I will appreciate any links or information that can help me identify the instrument and technique that produces this sound.

If you could link a sample I could tell you what technique it is, or what bass it is.

I have an example that I hope helps. Some years ago (dating myself here) there was a guitarist/singer/songwriter named Michael Hedges. Not my fav performer but I always loved the sound of the bass. If you go to http://www.windham.com/albums/product.j ... 1934110662 (http://www.windham.com/albums/product.jsp?id=01934110662) (the Live on the Double Planet CD) and click on RIkkis Shuffle (track 12)you can hear an example of what i am trying for. The track does not do the great "slides" from a high note to a lower note but the track does provide more information than my first post.

What I would like to know is what is the bass instrument and is there a VST instrument with a similar sound that permits the "slides".
Thanks to all,
PBB
