Definitely Sonar here. Podium and Sonar overlap feature wise in many areas but both hosts also have thier unique advantages. As Sonar is unlikely to have a rewire slave option anytime soon, such an option in Podium would be very welcome indeed.

I doubt Podium will ever be as feature rich as Sonar (I doubt it even needs to be) but having a rewire slave option for Podium would be a very big deal IMO as it would open it up to a far wider market and would then enable users to combine the strengths of any Rewire hosts they have with Podium.

As users it would be great if we did not have to choose between hosts at all. Why not draw from the strengths of a few user preferred hosts instead. Certainly at least until the perfect host arrives of course. But we need a perfect developer for that :hihi:

Of course another option might be as a VSTi like EXT. That would definitely be my preference over a rewire slave option but both would be useful.

I agree. Like I told Fritz above, I think that including Rewire SLAVE functionality, and not just master, would open up a whole new spectrum of possibilities, and also I'm confident that it would open up more sales as well.

Many people would like to have what Podium has, but are too much involved with their current host to fully switch. But if you could combine them in some way(rewire slave, of course), then you are no longer competing against the products as much, but suplementing them. And then you will still have all the user that would have bought anyways, but more because of this feature.

If you took a poll, I bet you would find many people would be for this.

Exactly.

I think I may have found a way to "slide some funds around". Well, that and tax return money.

I've just made myself a VIP, if you get my drift!

This is all good and well, but I was loving this DAW until it started crashing. It only worked for one night. Now I've had nothing but crash after crash. Different kinds also.

I really like this Daw and Frits is dedicated to looking after his customers and potetial customers.

I hope I can get a build that works at some point as I want podium pretty badly.

Did you change anything when it started crashing? It just seems odd that it started crashing out of nowhere. Very wierd. From the way it seems though, Fritz will be diligent in looking into it and hopefully figure out what is wrong. Good luck.

Cheers, heres hoping.

I couldn't put my finger on any specific state change. neverminf though. If I can get it going, that would be great. If not.. well... I still have SX3

I've been messing with Podium the last two days, and i'm really starting to like it more and more. On my PC, as i said earlier, its rock solid. I find that absolutely amazing because i bought my pc with specs recommended by Digidesign, and yet Podium works much smoother and efficiently than PT ever did. Kinda funny cause i was planning to upgrade my Digi, now i think i'm gonna keep my version of PT for compatabilty with others i know who have PT, but i'm seriously starting to think my search for a new DAW is over and Podium got it.
I like the idea of slaving other hosts to it, because it'll keep Podium from having to implement every feature under the sun. For my use its perfect, and if they start adding a gazillion other features it'll start to bog down the way other DAWs seem to. By slaving other hosts to it, it wont have to take on all those features and the core of the program can stay small and tight.
I hope that makes sense, as i realize i'm a bit green and may be misunderstanding how this stuff works.

Man Im jealous.

I have spent hours trying to get podium to run than I have been playing on it.

It would maybe take a total nuke and reinstall to get it going properly I think

haha I'm impressed with Frits, It all running again, for now anyway. Time to start testing the plug ins to see which one did it.

I guess the best thing about this product is the support you get.

Yup Yup

It might be man. I remember when i go Digi and it wouldnt work. There was NO customer support and no useful answers at the forum. (mind you this was on a system BUILT to be compatable with PT!)so i just kept reloading it. And after the umpteenth time it worked. Of course i'm terrified of ever touching it or chaning it in any way..........
I think sometimes some little glitch screws up a whole system. I was also having problems with the performance of PT once and found out that a driver from a printer was actually making PT run more buggy.
I tell you hardware had its advantages!

Quick Question about the Time Signature area of this host. What is the lowest BPM that you can use? Is it like Sonar where you can go down to 1BPM if you wanted to or is it like Acid where you are limited to 70BPM?

I use some incredibly slow timings at times so this is important to me.

I just tried, it goes down to 10bpm. I didnt run a track, but went to a sample and tested how low it would go, so i'm pretty sure thats the floor.

BTW, 70bpm is a bit high for a floor isnt it? I mean theres alot of music at 50-60bpm. Thats pretty amazing. I thought Digi had a high floor, but 70 is just ridiculous.

yes it's really limiting. Main reason I switched to Sonar however I find that there always seems to be this or that vst that won't load in this or that host. I have ones that will load in Acid and won't load in Sonar and visa versa.... so always looking for things to cover such problems..

I guess Acid is aimed at people who make music in the 70bpm to the 250bpm range only. shrugs...

Also I like to take a midi file that I've used for something else and slow it down and do transpositions and generally mess it up to where it's a completely different piece... Slowing a upbeat piece that's 4 or 5 minutes long and slowing down the timing to 10 or 20 bpm and then you can create a wonderful dark ambiant soundscape or something.

Thats a great way to generate ideas. I had a drummer who always insisted on playing every song at extreme tempos. Its amazing how a song will completely change in character doing that.
I've given up on one do-it-all application. I rather have a few applications that acheive what i want anyway. I'm thinking of keeping PT for compatability with Pro-studios and others that i know use it, Podium as my main DAW for recording and writing, and Brainspawn Forte (until i find something better) to run plugins live.
I was hoping at first fpor system that did it all well, but the fact is, any system that does everything well will be cumbersome and bogged down, eventually affecting its performance in all areas.
