I'm in the mood of writing some indie rock music on guitar. I need some backing drums and bass guitar.
I've never really found good bass samples.
So I need sets for:
1) Walking bass lines to sit back in the mix
2) Melodic stuff like solos
3) Picked bass
Can anyone help?
Thanks

I think Manytone have a really nice set of bass samples for a really decent price.

I think you can't beat the manytone stuff, and there is really nothing good for free (as far as bass samples go).

I agree thare is no good quality free bass sample library and commercial ones aren't so good as well.
Free route:
Normal guitar + pitchshifter.

Ok, whats a good pitch shifter?
I used to used N-track's built in one and it sounded pants. I guess I didnt know much about EQ back then though which was probably where I was going wrong.

You might want to see what's being discussed over on the NaturalStudio site:

Btw, while this might sound like whatever stupid advice: *The* key to make bass lines sound realistic isn't all about the samples. It's about the way you record and/or edit them.
You can probably even get a more or less decent authentic bassline out of Steinbergs VB-1, assuming you know about how bass players approach things.
Yeah, sure, there ARE reasons why you want alternating samples on repeating notes (aka "round robin"), but then, think about how often a bass player would indeed rapidly repeat some notes. It simply doesn't happen all that often. Usually they're playing a line of some sorts, so any "round robin" feature wouldn't even have a chance to kick in.
Having said that, there's chances to even make the most sophisticated bass library sound robotic.
Fwiw, I have a few sampled patches of my Musicman Stingray in Kontakt and EXS format. Nothing special at all, no multi velocity layers (ok, a few release samples in the EXS patches), but they're my "to go for" patches in my default song.
If you have any conversion utility, I'd gladly post them.

Sure. But in that case, proper amplification would be the thing to look at, rather than round robin.Mutant wrote:In all kinds of Metal - very often !Sascha Franck wrote:think about how often a bass player would indeed rapidly repeat some notes.

I have three of the Manytone offerings and love them all. They are available as a soundfont so you should have no problem using them with pretty much any DAW as most any DAW supplies a soundfont player. If you are looking for a workhorse, I would suggest UBK.pw wrote:I think you can't beat the manytone stuff, and there is really nothing good for free (as far as bass samples go).
