Hi

A year or so back I remember seeing a sample CD for sale online called Sounds of the Old Island or something like that. It included loads of samples of ethnic Japanese instruments, chiefly from the island of Hokkaido I believe.

Does anyone remember this CD title and can you let me know where I can get a copy in the UK please ?

another you should check out, its nmot japanese, but chinese, is: "M-Audio Pro Sessions 24: The Essence Of China"

i bought this not too long ago and i love it....my favortie sample disc i own...

its got 550 mb of loops....
has some flutes and some strings..

flutes:
Ba Wu
Bamboo Flute
Hu Lu Si
Xiao
Xun
and also a folder of random stuff played with the different flutes..

Strings:
Zither

only one string instrument...but the samples for the strings are awesome...

all of them are sorted by bpm and most have chord or note info...and both the flutes, and the zither have a folder named "Freely"...which doesent have a bpm...basically just somebody goin at it with the instruments...
only downside is, theres very few single notes in it....its pretty much all loops...

but still, my favorite disc so far...

mainly types of Zither or Stringed Instruments, wide variety of types more important than sample amount.

Ok. So, you know the Zither on my page (follow the link in the sig). It is from Herman Witkam's RAW collection, but I did some extra maps and whatnot.

And, keep checking back as there will be some pretty cool South Asian and Central Asian stuff coming up there in the coming months.
