Do you backup selfmade samples/loops to dvd's or other carriers in case HDD somehow dies? I just realized if my hard drive would blow up I might hang myself. Thoughts?

Always ... I back everything up to CDR (project files and vsts, as well as samples)

So it's worth it. Even though there would be quite a few dvd's used.

definitely. I have a portable hard disk to back up everything which I take with me if I go away just in case the place should burn down too. Burning DVDs and asking a friend or family member to keep them is a good idea.

I back up my 2 main HD's (OS, data and programs) onto a HD I use exclusively for this purpose, using Acronis TrueImage.
It's not just your data (tho this is the most important); imagine the headache of re-installing, re-configuring, and re-patching all your software.

With mass storage so ridiculously cheap, it is WORTH IT.

A well-behaved signature.

I don't back up very much, because my output is so low. Most of what I'd lose is already on CD, because my main PC isn't connected to the internet and I need to use discs to get interesting new toys onto it.
I do have a couple of DVDs with the Nearly Upright samples on them, though - I've been working on this thing for a year and a half, and I'm with you on how I would feel if all my work was erased...

I was lazy about backing up for a while in late 2005.
In January 2006 my house was broken into and my computer stolen. I lost 6 months of project files, including what i still consider to be my most creative track ever (fortunately i still have the track in mp3 format for listening purposes, as i put it online).
I no longer neglect making backups.
