But I will say one thing. Or have I said this before?

But man I LOVE the bounce functions. Best implementation of a freeze that I've seen.

Brent - have you checked out the thread on freeze for XT2? I try to stay out of them because I think some people are just better equipped at determining what works better in some areas. For me - freeze is something I should just enjoy and stay out of.

But given that there is alot of discussion going on about freeze and flexible rendering, maybe you can add what it is you like about Podium's functionality.

I may do that. I'm still learning Podium, and even trying to get myself even more familiar with the different ways of working. So I may offer that as a possible method. Although, Podium doesn't have the traditional freeze, per se, of course. But it's method is better, I think, and does the same thing in the same amount of clicks, only MUCH more flexible and just as effective.

I may even suggest these things for Tracktion, as that still stands as my main app, and probably will for as long as I can see.

well, good for you. I guess you're right there; even if we talk about software (no a manifest feast of the senses..), comparing and valuing features and workflows etc, in the end for me as well it's very much the feel of an app that's decisive. I had that in earlier days with CE, later with eXT and now with REAPER. As you might know. The right feel stimulates productivity, so I'd say buy Podium asap and make some great music.

YES i bought podium just for this feature and of course because there was an update free for life option , and i am very happy with it
yes it would have been really handy if it has Rewire but that's just the way Propellerhead Software people think

edit : just forgot to mention the audio engine was a 64 bits one

The reason bounce is so great in podium is because you can choose at what level you want to bounce.
It has a hierarchical engine: so what you do is, you just add a 'bounce' track somewhere down the hierarchy. When you select render on that track, it renders everything down the line to an audiotrack and disables those tracks.
This way you can choose to bounce before the effects (just the synth output), after the effects, after the send effects, or just anywhere down the signal flow.
Unfreezing is as simple as clicking the 'b' icon on the bounce track at which point the bounce track gets disabled and everything down the flow gets unabled.
It can't get anymore flexible than this. (but is kind of hard to explain if you don't get podiums signal flow)

That sounds great but I just wonder: when is it beneficial to bounce before effects instead of after? Is this when you have multiple VST instruments (that you want to freeze) going through a single effect send (that you want to continue tweaking)?

Even with only ONE synth, ythe bounce saves the CPU cycles that would be spent processing the MIDI and generating a signal.

Thanks Greg. It does sound very flexible. I fired up the CM version and plan to take a look at how the routing system works - I get the impression that is the thing that sets Podium apart from other sequencers, so it will be v. interesting. Unfortunately I didn't make time yet (in fact I wasted most of the weekend!

If you wait for issue 111 you get ZebraCM as well as Podium. Amazing synth - been having some fun with it

. In fact I may even buy the full Zebra - it sounds really great!

At first, when trying podium, the hierarchical engine can be a bit confusing. So anyone who tries it, make sure to read the tutorials and watch the videos.

But after you start seeing the benefits, such as the way that freeze works, you see how awesome it is to have. You find yourself thinking "DOH!!! Why hasn't anyone else thought of this?!?!?!". And it works, very well.

I love the heirarchical mixing too, especially being able to freeze send groups. (I can do this in Sonar by bouncing the bus tracks, but Podium's method just seems cleaner)

However, I still get a bit initially confused when I have "Sends" at the top of the heirarchy and the actuall audio generation track is actually hidden further and further through several layers. I know this is correct for the audio chain, but it still takes some getting used to.

Over a few tries at the demo, i must say it really grew on me...

It's actually a very clean and organised daw, the mixer is weird at first, but it's really cool, i love the way it handles multi in/outputs.

Anybody knows if the developper is planning on implementing something along the lines of presets morphing ?
From what i've seen Podium could have a real nice implementation of this.

I swear i'm gonna buy the first freakin host that gets this right...

It seems to me like it almost has all of the basics of a very streamlined composing environment nailed down, i just wouldn't be thinking twice if it had some more juicy stuff (presets morphing + andvanced midi plugins on top of the list).
