Hi everyone

We've made a cataloging program called "Folder-Snap" which takes snapshots of Windows folders and drives.
It was designed as a tool for locating backed-up files, and emailing others listings of media collections, but it is also a useful manager of samples, etc.

As a sample manager, are there any suggestions as to which file types Folder-Snap would need to extract audio information from (eg. duration, bit rate, bit depth, sample rate, etc.)
Currently it supports mp3, ogg, and wav through our plugin which we can easily add to.

Which sample formats do you think we'd need to support to cover most bases.
Users can also define their own properties to categorize samples, such as "level of distortion", etc. See screenshot:

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

.rex, .rx2, .aif, .wma

theres others too....ima let some other people list them....im not quite sure...

We've got the specifications for the aif and wma formats, but does anyone know if the rex and rx2 formats are available to developers?

Hi all

The software has been updated to cover the following formats:

MP3, WAV, OGG, ASF, WMA, AIF, AU/SND, RX2/REX/RCY,
BMP;DIB, GIF, PNG, JPG, TIF, TGA, PCX,
MPG, AVI, WMV, FLV, MOV, RM/RA.

Any other suggestions? Is there specific information from acidized wav files that would be handy to search on?

Don't forget WUSIKSND and DASHSND, although those files tend to be in one locaion.

It would be great if it could display whether there's any loop and tonal information embedded into a sample.

How big was the folder that it crashed on. I've been using it myself on large folders and not had any problems.

Another approach might be to allow the program to use any and all installed codecs.

I use Total Cammander, with one of the free media preview plugins, MMedia. All I need to do is write the extension, that I want it to preview, into it's ini file, and it will then play it. It uses the Window's built in media players as it's audio engine, I believe.

Hi Bernard

The list of file types I'm gathering is for extraction of information, rather than for playing directly within Folder-Snap.

eg. to locate samples based on duration, or loops by BPM, etc.

Currently, files can be launched from Folder-Snap in order to play in their associated Windows application, or alternatively, sent to Winamp for which there are quick controls within Folder-Snap (see the picture above).

In the future, it may be that we play sounds directly from Folder-Snap, but at the moment, it's really a tool for organizing and classifying files. I hope this all makes sense.
