Hey, just tested all versions. Somehow ACID picked them all up this time... Very interesting synthesizer here, the oscillators sound clean.
Just one question though. How come on changing the pulse width of the RAMP wave, it sounds like a supersaw?

"How come on changing the pulse width of the RAMP wave, it sounds like a supersaw?"
is that a rhetorical question?
the reason for that is, i didnt want to add a specific "supersaw" control there. in later versions of the gui, the controls and layout will be rearanged with proper labels. with the triangle wave, the pulsewidth acts as a "waveshaping depth" control where 100% = sine, as well.

which one? the first is a given, and the second is impossible.xis23 wrote:has xhip got antialiasing/alias free?

"hmmm, to sad - linux version of xhip crahses ext2 - beta (march 16) when gui is opened."
this is the fault of xt2. according to the people who can get it to work, the prefered configuration is a out-of-the-box ubuntu distro with gnome. on that platform apparently xhip works perfectly.
xhip doesnt work with xt2 for me on my debian unstable distro, it probably doesnt work on anything except the distro they recommend. xt2 for linux is extremely unstable and just in the beginning stages of development.
i'll release my own host in the near future, i need one for testing xhip in a stable enviroment anyway. with xt2 there is no way to tell if a bug is infact with xhip, or with xt2. the gui issue is probably a combination.

Why would an alias free synth be impossible ?laputa_sync wrote:which one? the first is a given, and the second is impossible.xis23 wrote:has xhip got antialiasing/alias free?

well it would have to be additive, and even then you'll have aliasing due to the non-zero thd of sinewaves represented with a limited bit depth. basically you'd need infinite sampling rate and infinite bitdepth to have zero aliasing.
so, technically it is possible. it isnt something anyone in this universe will ever see, though.

I forgot to add:depending on your definiton of aliasing.aciddose wrote:well it would have to be additive, and even then you'll have aliasing due to the non-zero thd of sinewaves represented with a limited bit depth. basically you'd need infinite sampling rate and infinite bitdepth to have zero aliasing.

To me lower than -144 dB is below the theoretical limit the soundcard can play. So anything below that isn't really aliasing.

well, since float cant represent a signal of 1.0 scale while maintaining a noise floor of -144db, that means using vst it is impossible to do what you say.
yes it really is dependant upon how you define aliasing. by my standards (what you can actually hear) xhip is aliasing free. at lower sampling rates however you'll get audible effects caused by problems with sinc-peak vs. sampled peak differences in the output. this is due to the way sampling works, due to the way the soundcard produces the analog signal from the digital one. at 192khz, xhip is perfect. if the soundcard upsampled the input digital signal to 192khz before coverting it to analog, xhip would be perfect in my opinion at 48khz.
so, not only does it depend upon how you define aliasing (if subjective) but also what other effects can contribute to imperfection, such as a lower quality soundcard/dac.
based upon the scientific definition of aliasing, it is practically impossible to produce zero aliasing signals. based upon our subjective definition of "what you can hear", it becomes possible with a 192khz sampling rate and 24 bits.

i really miss the old thread where u could find all info and development updates......while this thread is just a mess with people bringin upo the same questions all over again.
anyway aciddose dont know if u seen this thread
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... sc&start=0
its about adding guis to guiless plugins.
havent read through it but maybe could be perfect for xhip.
not sure if it requires a guiless version of xhip...in case can u pls provide one thx.

Assecas mGUI doesn't require a guiless plug, though you won't be able to access the original gui once it's skinned (yet...)_starcraft_ wrote:not sure if it requires a guiless version of xhip...in case can u pls provide one thx.

you might just have fond memories of that thread since it's in your past. it's a common human thing to feel that way about the past, "like it used to be".
i'm sorry i have to tell you that the old thread was exactly the same though
when i have the time i'll do better posting updates on xhip.cjb.net
i'll try to write my own message board, and i'll create a section of it where i can moderate extensively in order to make the thread very easy to read. i'll move all questions into a faq. i'll put commentary directly next to related commentary. we can have a offtopic chitchat thread as well.
doing that wouldnt be too difficult, it is just the password/registration business i need to deal with. i do not want to allow anonymous posting since there will definitely be problems with spam. it just takes a lot of thought, planning as with everything.
