The "dude" might be sleeping you know, we don't all live on KVR... (his post shows a very late at night timestamp for me)
From wiki:
Singing bowls were traditionally used throughout Asia as part of Buddhist, Bön and shamanic meditation practice. Singing bowls were historically made in Tibet, Nepal, India, Bhutan, China, Japan and Korea. Today they are made in Nepal, India, Japan and Korea. The most common type are from the Himalayan region.
Kangling (Tibetan: རྐང་གླིང།; Wylie: rkang-gling) is the Tibetan word for a trumpet or horn made out of a human thighbone.
The Manjira is a traditional percussion instrument of India.
Asian would probably be a good way of general description indeed, but maybe don't get into a frenzy over this, many people don't know this term to be offensive and I'm pretty sure Hollow Sun didn't mean any harm.

But come on, are we becoming the politically correct police around here or something? "Orient" is derived from the Latin word oriens meaning "rising", as in the sun rising in the east.
For example, there is The Oriental Bangkok, a luxury hotel in Bangkok Thailand. Offensive? Then there is an official breed of cat called Oriental. Offensive?
There is a class of hot pepper varieties called Oriental, including the Thai Hot, India Jwala and Fuji. Offensive?
There is the Oriental Institute in Chicago, a research group focused on "near east" studies. Offensive?
The American Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine . . . Offensive?
Oriental Bank of Commerse, an India undertaking . . . Offensive?
Oriental rugs . . . Offensive?
Just don't anyone start calling me an Occidental or I'll punch your lights out.
It was used to describe a class of instruments that originated in what has traditionally been called "the east" so its usage is not offensive, IMHO.American Heritage Book of English Usage wrote:It is worth remembering, though, that Oriental is not an ethnic slur to be avoided in all situations. It is most objectionable in contemporary contexts and when used as a noun, as in "the appointment of an Oriental to head the commission". In these cases Asian (or a more specific term such as Vietnamese, Korean, or Asian American, if appropriate) is the only acceptable term. But in certain historical contexts, or when its exotic connotations are integral to the topic, Oriental remains a useful term.

Oh thank goodness..........I originally thought it said Singing "Bowels"
Anyway as a side note, I work with several people who are still citizens of various Asian countries and I am always being corrected when I slip and say "Oriental" as they prefer the term Asian even when referring to customs and food.
Thank you for the samples, I'm interested in seeing how the Singing Bowls sound in Wusikstation.

At least he didn't go the Ted Turner route…emdot_ambient wrote:But come on, are we becoming the politically correct police around here or something? "Orient" is derived from the Latin word oriens meaning "rising", as in the sun rising in the east.
