M audio fasttrack USB or lexicon alpha?

What would you go for? I can't decide :help:

Post

yeah, i'm stalking you... :D

Couple of thoughts:

Fasttack doesn't have phantom power for your mics... may not be an issue if you're never going to use a condenser mic.

i like the look of the alpha but found out the Pantheon reverb plug only works with the included CubaseLE so no use in other hosts...

If you're going to be playing guitar to any extent, maybe worth checking out the Line6 Toneport UX1 (gtr/mic interface with big bundle of Line6 software) or the Maudio Black Box (interface with onboard effects/modelling and wacky adrenalinn cribbed sequenced filter/delay effects. Can be used as a standalone effects/modeller too).

Stalking me eh??

I'm not really that great a guitar player, I can just manage a few chords and bits but I've had a semi-acoustic hanging around and never got round to playing properly. So I don't really want a dedicated box just something I can plug in and mess around with.
I thought the lexicon looked better than the m-audio but noticed on a few reviews that there was a latency issue a while back(might be sorted now as I looked on their site and the latest driver is from Feb 07)

Thanks Stalker :hihi:

and the strange thing is a work colleague has literally just walked into the office with a PC game called "Stalker"...

:D

another thought; the Mackie Spike was being heavily discounted recently, £99 at a few places... all the standard Is and Os but onbaord DSP too for dynamics/eq... and a copy of Tracktion too, can't be bad. :)

looks like the deals i saw recently may have expired... i just tried Froogle again, looks like a lot of the deals it picks up are now no longer available...

mmm, well I might just end up plumping for your first suggestion after all and get an audio buddy to use with my audiophile. At least then I know I'll get a quality input. Thanks for your help Gary! :)

I have the Alpha and its great. Their tech supports emailed me within minutes. The Cubase LE is awesome and easy to use. The Pantheon KILLS. The fast track though has a history of being hard to get operational. (of course, theres now gonna be 100 replies saying, "I have the fast track and it installed fine") But do some digging and the truth shall set you free. My buddy had the fast track for 3 MONTHS and we only got it operational 2 weeks ago.
