I use a sf2 file in Directwave but regardless of velocity the samples are played exactly at the same level. When played in Mackie's soundfont player the velocity is played correctly.

Any ideas?

In the ZONE tab, make sure that you have the "global" button selected and make sure that Note Velocity is being routed to Voice Gain.

It's set like that. Any other ideas?

I experimented a bit and came up with this (check the knobs):

I don't know Directwave very well and I don't know why it works better now :) If someone has an idea, feel free to enlighten me.

Drag that dial next to note velocity/gain so that it's completely to the right. Think of it as a DRY/WET (or 0 - 100%) for the function you're controlling.

You only need to do this for one instance, so better to remove those extra ones to be safe.

Also, make sure that the Voice Gain itself is set to -inf, as the note velocity acts as a scale from -inf to 0db.

(please feel free to PM me with a link to the soundfont in question, I'd be happy to test it and see what I can come up with. Directwave's SF2 import isn't 100% (sorry arguru!) and many of my SF2s don't tend to import too well, but thankfully the functionality to correct them doesn't take too long. Bear in mind that Directwave is a sampler and that importing of certain 3rd-party file formats is a pleasant extra and not the main feature of DW as a product.)

I was having problems with Directwave not responding to velocity when I input notes in a piano roll with a mouse in cubase.

Yes, my experiment was just wishful thinking...But I noticed there is a difference between the velocities but it's just so small. The difference between vel=1 and vel=127 is not that big (as opposed to the Mackie soundfont player where vel=1 is inaudible as expected at my normal listening level.)
Here is a link to the soundfont (I don't how to make a clickable link in the posting when there's a space in the file name):

Hiya.

Yeah, 1.36 has done something wierd that 1.25 didn't

Anyway:-

1. Load your tenor sax preset as per usual.
2. In the ZONE tab, at the far left, in the MAIN section, drag the GAIN from -12dB to -oo (infinity). The velocity should work properly now.

Hope this helps! :)
