One time I was at a bar with my friend Micah and some pal of his. At one point in conversation he said:
"You like Nine Inch Nails? You should listen to the Scissor Sisters. They do a kickass cover of Pink Floyd."
I went home. I heard it.
I never spoke to him again.

Add Frankie Goes To Hollywood and Bronski Beat and I'd love to have seen the reactions.intel wrote:I used to own one of these:

Shockingly inappropriate to rush hour!
I used to keep a small one that would fit precisely on my left leg, jammed against the door.
On straight roads you can hold the wheel with your knees. Get lots of practice in.

Karlheinz Stockhausen's Licht ("The Seven Days of the Week") series, which is a cycle of seven operas that lasts over 29 hours!
Anyway, a friend of mine used to manage a book and record store in downtown Washington DC. When it was getting close to closing time, they'd put on Samstag Aus Licht, the central character of which is Lucifer, and pump up the volume. Guaranteed to clear the store in less than 15 minutes!

All I can say is . . .
RULES OF DATING
1) While making your moves on a first date, DO NOT play D.O.A: The Third and Final Report of Throbbing Gristle.
2) Wear deoderant.
3) Brush your teeth before the date.
4) . . . etc.

Ah, but you see I love Schoenberg. It's just that I learned long ago that few others did.
Stockhausen on the other hand.....

Actually, on the 2, 4CD sets of the Licht Licht series I own, there is one full CD worth of really incredible stuff. I think it's the last part of Donnerstag Aus Licht, but I can't be sure. Stockhausen's writing on his work makes his music sound better than it is. I love his ideas . . . the execution is often . . . well, an acquired taste, I suppose.herodotus wrote:...Stockhausen on the other hand.....
And so if there are more Schoenberg fans than Stockhausen, in terms of shocking displays of inappropriate musical taste . . .
VICTORY IS MINE!!!
Have at you!

Well for those not interested in the full work, Stockhausen released Michaels Reise on ECM, a chamber version of "Michael's Journey Round the Earth with trumpet and orchestra" which is the second act of Donnerstag aus Licht, and is among the most accessible of his works (although it should still drive some folks awayemdot_ambient wrote:Actually, on the 2, 4CD sets of the Licht Licht series I own, there is one full CD worth of really incredible stuff.
