I was just wandering, compare the x-fi pro elite to a soundcard of the same price, which is better for making music, is the X-fi even suitable for the job?

The (semi) pro soundcard (or audio interface) always wins... Less of the crap features you don't need for a DAW, so the components that ARE there are of better over-all component quality.

could you give me some alternatives then? and what is with the worlds sudden obsession with spelling on forums and the web...

I think that an X-Fi is a valid alternative for a DAW that isn't used for music alone. I had no problems at all (recording only VSTis), the chip is a very good one, stability too, and latency vs, CPU load is ok. I am now using Kore as sound card with my new DAW, but as I said, I was quite happy with the X-Fi Music I had.

i read something on creatives website that made me piss my pants when the card came out, it said, ahem, cough... "with the crystaliser your mp3's will have better then studio sound"... LOL. that being said i am sure its a good enough card if you want a jack of all trades card.
