Can i run the pod from a pcm card without the power supply?I've read that you can't on a pc but the blurb about the satellite says it can be bus powered and mentions nothing about platform so i hope this is the case..

Depends on the actual pcm(cia?) FireWire card. Most don't supply power, but some do! Check the manual of the specific card...

But since battery power of laptops is always limited to just a couple of hours I wouldn't go anywhere without a power supply.

Thanks BK.I didn't know there were different pcmcia cards.

I'd read that for some reason firewire interfaces didn't work with pcmcia cards on laptops..i wouldn't want to have to be carting the wall wart everywhere just to supply power to the pod!That would defeat the objective

So using the power supply for the laptop is a normal pcm card sufficient,or is there a specific card better designed for bus powering the firewire interface?

You know what i mean?I'll be using the power supply with the laptop but i want to power the pod from a pcmcia card..?

Ok, just did some Google research again... Have to disappoint you...

The only cardbus / pcmcia -> FirWire adapters that do provide buspower do that through an extra AC/DC wall wart. Or with a battery pack that supplies 12V DC.

Cause of the problem is that PCMCIA only provides 5 or 3.3 volts, and not enough juice to provide the full 12V / 1.5A / 18W that the FireWire specifications require.

To compare: USB provides 5V / 0.5A / 2.5W ...

Thanks BK,i thought so(that i needed a ps)still not a deal breaker,i was going to upgrade live but with the price drop and tracktion three on the horizon..As long as i can upgrade think i'll go for it.

)told me that i could bus power the pod so i'm glad i asked.

So whats with the pcmcia not providing enough power?Where's the use in that

Can i run the mackie satellite on a PCM card w/o PS?(PC)
