How is it for you folks ?

A simple tune with say 3 audio tracks and a couple of vst synths "no ram based samplers" uses like 300 to 400 mb of ram.

whats da about ?

I agree. Same thing happens to me.

Here's my previous thread:

definitely
same setup in both versions (xt1.4 and xt2 beta 23-march):
3 midi tracks with a sampler, oatmeal, and drumatic 3

ram usage & cpu consumption
xt1.4: ~43 MB & avg 5-8%
xt2: ~143 MB (!!!) & avg 14-20%

I've experienced this too. I hope something can be done about it!

I can't help but wonder if this has to do with overhead due to win/linux cross-compatibility, and that down the road jorgen is planning to optimize for each platform.

Gamble, could you maybe share that project for others to try?
I'm curious what sort of numbers i'd get, using the same file.

Start both, with nothing in it - 1.4 uses 13MB mem+pagefile, 2 uses 130MB

Could be something about the program being beta with a bunch of yet unoptimised code?

Mine uses only 63 mb at boot...

Mine uses ~63 mb too at boot...(latest beta 23.march), XT1 though only ~8 mb.
Half human, half mayfly.

mem usage 63, VM size 68

same. back to 1.4 for me till xt2 is somehow optimized.

Same here -- weird.

Jorgen?

following experiences are for xt2, beta 23-march
- starting a new project: ~62 MB
- adding a new midi/audio/drumtrack/folder track (empty): + 17 MB
- deleting tracks doesn't free up memory
- adding a sampler: + 18 MB
- deleting plugins doesn't free up memory

quite horrifying figures and facts if you ask me :)

Post

you seriously think that that's "a lot" of RAM?

please read the whole thread once again (if you did yet at all) - and I mean ALL OF IT!

Post

Mine uses about 42Mb RAM on boot and takes about 30% of CPU. Adding a MIDI track (without instrument) costs about 17Mb RAM. Iam talking about XT2.
