yo!

What is the fattest sounding piece of hardware available? I have been thinking on bying an allen heath xone92
for a while, but if im gonna use something just to route (tekno music) audio through, i want something that really nails it!
I guess it gonna be some analog (tube)compressor or eq or combination of both.

which to go for?

So you're just looking for a processor, not a synth? The synth is where the majority of your phatness is going to come from ;)

You want to know my production techniques to advice me or youre saying its all about production techniques?

I agree anything could be achieved with skills , but there is also something about routing that reason track you have been tweeking for ages through some hiend shit to give it the final touch (i think:)

I totally agree, but i think getting that softsynth out of the computer and through some old od-1, tubescreamer or similar is what render superfludous hd synths

The latter. If you can come up with good sounds to begin with, then you probably don't need much extra processing to get the fat sound. Mixing is also VERY big part of getting the fat/big sound, since you can either totally destroy the very good source material you might already have, or you can get a nice balance between all the sounds & frequencies which might result into a very tasty mix.

You have to learn your tools and develop your ear and techniques for mixing and sound design. There are some "fatness-vsts/hw-boxes" out there, but if you just tweak away blindly with those, you'll most probably end up destroying the whole mix by overdoing the effect/processing.

My advice is that spend as much time as you possibly can learning sound design and then the other half (which wasn't included in that "as much time...") learning mixing. Then you'll realize how much you can do with just a couple of synth, compressor, EQ, and maybe two basic effect. Many times it's how you use the tools (mix & match & layer & etc --> production techniques).

"Fat" is to this decade as Aphex Aural Exciters were to the 80s. Can you listen to Paul Simon's Graceland and honestly tell me you like that snare? Fat's going to be the same in ten years. :hihi:
