hey there.

i am desperately looking for a detailed sampled acoustic bass....without luck.
i know trilogy's acoustic is decent. but i heared it in sooo any productions i really don't want to use it anymore. then i came across Larry Seyers. which sounds cool. but has so much character that it is hard to use sometimes. also - some of the programming makes the patches usless (low G string for instance). I've seen Bardstowns "the bass" now. the demos sound awesome. but i doesn't have any slides, bends or any other detail that could breath live into it.
Oh yes ...I tried the manytones one as well. which is just the worst sampled instrument i heard so far :-)
am i missing something. is there any decent product?
why do we have hundreds of piano libraries that all do the same - but no developer covers a basic instrument such as upright bass......sooooo frustrating!

The upright bass in plugsond free is quite decent (http://www.kvraudio.com/get/634.html).

If you need more frills, and are willing to spend a few bucks, try trilogy.

if you had read the original post you would know that he tyred of the trilogy upright sound and he finds the manytone upright to be bad, so, for sure, the same has to apply to the plug sound free one, which is much worse than the manytone one.

hmm,

there is Larry Seyers Upright - which is gorgeous (but giga only). Wizoosounds have a good one for HAL and exs. And there is Bardstown upright and manytones ..... there is also a decent upright in YT Majestics......

a cost effective solution might be Wizoo and manytones.....

hope that helps

Doesn't anyone read the original post anymore? :hihi:

maybe not :-)

I guess that what he is looking for simply does not exist... I would have said the manytones for slides and the Wizoo for playing ..... Wizoo also has no slides or fx sounds .... but other than that it is a quite nice bass.

well, yes, YellowTools Majestics - it is more neutral and has quite a lot of articulations ..... think it is about 3-4 gigabyte for the upright - Independence comes with a selection .....

hope that helps

I have Trilogy and find it great for me and projects that I work on.

You say "trilogy's acoustic is decent. but i heared it in sooo any productions i really don't want to use it anymore."

I don't quite follow you with your way of thinking. You like the sound but because it's used alot you don't want to use it? It's like saying that you wouldn't use a Neve console because thousands of hits were recorded on it.

One thing that I really like about Trilogy is the ability to layer different sample sets to achieve totaly unique bass sounds. Layer and blend the upright with an electric fretless or an upright with one of the synth sounds. I doubt you've heard anything like that before.

Manytone Upright Bass is very convincing if you program it right. I use it all the time
It sounds extremely good. I don't really see what more I'd want out of a sample library. And at it's current price it's really cheap.

Larry Seyers bass has too much metallic mwah sound in the tone for me, making the notes sound pretty disconnected and unrealistic, IMO. I'm sure the quality of the sampling is great--Larry Seyers' drum kit sounds amazing--but if the tone isn't good...

Bardstown's bass sounds really great--very realistic. But I didn't know it doesn't have any slides or bends...

I tried to make that upright really cater to reproduce certain bassisms that were not present in all the other upright libraries I've tried and heard. I made sure to include all sorts of slides and other goodies such as open string rakes (which are an integral part of walking bass in Jazz) which other libraries are missing.

And if you need any advice with sequencing with the Manytone bass, or need sequencing tips, I'd be more than happy to help.
