tell me you are joking, a rompler that cost 10 000$!!!!!original post wrote:Now you'll surely say "OMG, this has to cost a fortune!". Hold your horses - the momentary version (regular edition, updates planned) will be 5 PC rigs including DVZ control software - and this all for only 10.000USD (that's 10grand!). This is the price what Mr Stone is aiming for (don't nail me for it, just quoting what he said). With this setup, you can run DVZ in REALTIME, the full orchestra maxed out. However the Audio Impresisons crew plans to sell the instrument in different flavours. One of them will be a 3 rig version, shipped just with strings and brass, but you can only play either of them realtime and have to bounce. But if you can live with that, you only shell out 6.000USD (that's 6grand). Touchscreen LCD controller extra.

Your treatment at the hands of EWQL comes as no surprise.

From what I remember, originally it even wasn't planned to release the thing publically. It's rather been a custom designed tool for the hollywood film scoring elite and such, aiming at super high instrument "credibility", so it could actually replace an orchestra. No wonder it's taking several computers at once to do the processing - and that certainly adds to the price.Muzik 4 Machines wrote: tell me you are joking, a rompler that cost 10 000$!!!!!

Well at that price, it will truly only be the Hollywood elite that will be using it. So I don't know why all teh publicity for it really. who cares. most of us can't justify the price.

People, you don't only get the samples and the controller software, but also 3-5 PC rigs for that price. The PC rig and the controller works as unity. If you think about that, you get an awesome configured and fluid running system for dirt cheap, that you can even enhance with your own samples (at least this is planned).
Best of both worlds. I mean, think about it... you pay like 6grand for a hardware Motif (fully loaded), the same ammount for a Kurzweil K26xx with weighted keys, and you freak out on a complete studio rig with 5PCs, samples and the asociated controller for 10k alltogether?
I mean, you also pay 1,5 thousand for EWQL samples, or up to 25 thousand for the full Vienna Set. Or are you just angry, that you can't test it and there won't be a hack available that soon?
Please don't forget what you get for the small ammount of money compared to the money and time that was put in there. And even if it will be more (15k to 20k - up to Chris Stone), it's still a bargain for what you get.
PS:
Thanks Doug for writing me, but if I could write you directly (PM) regarding some questions (also in terms of international sales), that'd also help a lot and I don't need to register over on Sounds Online just for that purpose.

$10k for 5 computers and an orchestral library is actually cheap. You don't need to be "Hollywood elite" to make a salary where you can justify a $10k studio purchase. I know quite a few composers that are anything but A-list that pull in a very comfortable salary.

I did not catch that it included the PC's with it. The value is there and I don't mean to say otherwise, but I still contend there are relatively few people in the world that can justify a 5 PC setup just for their sampler.

But people can justify 128MB Romplers for 6k in keyboard form? Okay...
If I had the money (well, I could get a credit for that - it's still fair priced after all) and the skill in terms of writing orchestra music (most important), I'd get it without hesitating.

Yes indeed.gunnar wrote:in some years you will run something like DVZ native on your laptop.
Only if the pack is 10 years old and on a budget or used.gunnar wrote:it will cost 39$
You'll get results sooner if you just record real strings.gunnar wrote:i wait for this.

Do you really think this thing isn't worth a dime? The more comments I read about it, the more I feel like it. I just say if you have the chance someday to test it in a studio, or maybe there will be a fair or a "demo display" in selected towns, you'll think different about it?

I can assemble a pc with a dualcore 64bit Athlon 4600+, 1 gig of ram (no oem), a 250GB 7200rpm hardisk, a 128MB Nvidia graphics-card and a DVD burner for about 400€...

So, how would you link several of those machines to work as one big library? Without having to open one patch here, another one there - all without the individual machines knowing what the others are doing?jens wrote: I can assemble a pc with a dualcore 64bit Athlon 4600+, 1 gig of ram (no oem), a 250GB 7200rpm hardisk, a 128MB Nividia graphics-card and a DVD burner for about 400€...
To me, while being completely over top of anything I will ever call my studio, the approach is making sense. Maybe the future will show other options to achieve such a thing on a single machine, but right now this isn't possible.
